My charger end not working properly and think the connectors wires were breaking insidde because when I flext its joint, the wires were making contact or not.

Now I wanted some quick solution and responded to a universale charger that used a connector designed for the toughbook. This was a private sale but the young guy was selling these units on a regular basis out of his condo. The charger worked for a while but one thing that worried me, was it was not always charging consistantly. After looing at the barrel connector, it was fine BUT it was the plastic housng, that was not th same diameter as that of the toughbook. with the plastic diamater not the same, you can pull it down slightly and the charge light would go off.

Now the selller did not hav a substitute or a answr and would not refund my money back.

I am looking for another charger...AGAIN if anyone here has one that is still in great shape, let me know. I am also looking for a new 7 amp battery for my cf-29 if that is the standard amp rating. Like to higher then standard rating.

    Thanks

It's possible the connector on the motherboard is going bad....I have had to replace many of them.

There is an IBM compatible charger that I stocked up on... $10 USD.... It also comes with a cigarette charger too. They are perfect and I have been using on for my CF-31 for months and they work perfect!

I posted a similar question here a few weeks ago and one of our friendly experts recommended a $5 IBM Thinkpad package with everything; AC/DC/Airplane/Case. All brand new. I bought a few and they seem to work great:

IBM AC DC Adapter 72W Auto Car Airline Combo 73P4503 73P4485 73P4502 | eBay

Hope this helps - at $5 for a new adapter ($8.50 more for shipping) it's hard to go wrong.

I think they are the same ones that Rick is talking about. That seller gives you a good break on s/h if you buy more that one.

Last charge was a ibm till the dog frayed the thin wire with her razor sharp teeth. I will take up the offer to buy another one from the user in this thread.

Yup... Those are the IBM chargers I have been using on my personal stuff. They also fit an HP that a neighbor needed.

I contacted the person in proton computers. nice price for the chargers. I repaired my cord with two barell connectors and shrink tubing. BUT, what is better is telecom shrink tube beenies. they are really small and can except phone line. I am not sure they would work after all, telecom line aka, phone line is smaller then the power cord but having shrink tube built into it would make for a nice connection.

Do has now grown and is not chewing on anything anymore. I primarly use the laptop on my lap, istead of the table so the chances of a power charger connector that is sticking out from bending is higher.

Look in trailer and boating stores. They make crimp on barrel connectors with heat shrink already on them..

You should be soldering those connections... Not crimping, IMHO...

To really do it correct, Buy an entire new cord and solder it to the mainboard of the power supply.
