Hi All,
Stupid question but perhaps worth asking .
On my cf-29 mk2 there isnt an hours counter in bios but on my cf-29 mk 4 there is. The question is does this count the hours used when in standby aswell as in normal running mode.
cheers

I want to know if it counts standby time also, I know only the MK4-5 have the counter as far as I know, someone correct me of this is wrong

Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
The Hdd will have an hour counter too, look in the smart data, as long as it`s the original one.

Yup! it counts, and you are again correct only MK4 & 5 cf-29 series has a counter with the exemption of the new toughbook model.
Wow! hi!... Tinder....how r u today? I hope you're on the pic...Lol.

Hi all,
Cheers guys .I think I will play a good little eco warrior and shut my toughie down from now on. I had brought my cf-29 mk4 with 560 hours on it now is almost 1000. Ive seen these with 4500 on them. This could effect the selling price or not?
cheers

I have one right now with almost like new condition but on the counter it has 1k hr. too and based on the seller report it seat on the table all day long on stanby mode. My theory here just explain to the buyer that it accumulated that time mostly on standby mode. I will try to update the bios if will set to zero again, cross your finger.

Tinderbox (UK).... Props on the Avatar.. OMFG... Who is that? I'm in love.... (My wife will understand)
Good to know about standby for 100% sure... I have always assumed that but god to know
Strawman... I have a a CF-29 that has 14K hours (Do the math!) and it works perfectly! I think it depends on the conditions it was used in! -
And no you can't reset the hours as its in an area inaccessible on a bois update
( I have tried with various models in the past)

Don’t worry about hours
After owning over 100 used toughbooks for 10 years now
Five common hardware failures are
1) Battery
2) hard drive
3) optical drive
4) backlight
5) bios battery
All of these items do not run constantly as the backlight, hard drive and the optical drive turns off after a period of time
The main electronic components that are on all the time seem to last forever
I think I have a Toughbook with 17,000 hours on it
Alex -
I will not buy a toughbook from you either coz you tried it before me. Lol

Optical drive dvd-rw hard drive replacement and ram upgrades are my limit
I'm not technical with modding as you are
btw
You have time to mod my mk-1 cf-30 with aftermarket gps ?
Alex -
I think the biggest thing I worry about when I buy a TB with high hours is the runtime on the LCD, Im not a big fan of trying to replace the backlights and inverters. The other hardware things that fail are somewhat simple fixes. My MK5 has almost 5k hours on it and works fine, the MK4 I got rid of for the 5 had almost 8k and was fine also. I guess you never know if it was left in standby or on full for the time, just a chance. I like the mk1-3's better, no counter, no mental worries, and no need to roll back the odometer ; )

It will be the first cf-30 aftermarket gps instalation
No wwan just bluetooth the model # CF-30C3PAZBM
I'm thinking of buying the stock panasonic gps bumpout, and possibly the stock gps ( its in the correct location for great reception)
What are your thoughts on this?
Alex -
The antena location and antena uses on cf-30 will be as good as sarantel antena. I don't know how many channel that cf-30 uses on its module. But if you want to upgrade to a better module, its up to you.
teo -
Yes it would be a compairision with my stock module on my mk-2 unit
As I said maybe use the standard antenna only (if its available from heartland services), and the sirfstarIII module

Hi All,
If you sell a toughie and the buyer thinks you've wound back the clock you can always say that "that cant be right because at the time I was 3000 hours away in Washington".This saying always seems to work for second hand car dealers.
cheers

There is no way in hell the bios counter counts it when in stand by... I've had my CF-30 for over 3 years now and it's NEVER NEVER EVER been turned off (IE, it's ALWAYS in standby...) - 3 years = 1095 days * 24 hours/day = 26280 hours... I just rebooted to check and it only has 2370 hours on it...
All I can say about Tinderbox (UK)'s avatar is this: Man - she sure is purdy!... we need more chicks on this forum LOL!

Hey Tinderbox, is that a young Kate the Magnificent? Doesn't matter how old she is in her pictures (or if she is in skintight leather), she will always be dear to me (and yes, my wife would understand also). All that and a Brit accent to boot! As Popeye always said, "She puts a shiver in me timber!" (or something like that).
