hey guys does anyone know the differences between those big and small bumbers at the side of the screen. are those different antennas or just bumpers.
so far i could spot 3 different types in videos or on pictures. my cf-19 mk4 is just flat on the sides.
can you buy them as spare parts...?
thanks a lot and happy new year...!

They're antennas, the really big "wings" are the WWAN antenna covers.

thanks for the answer! does it give better signal with my gobi 3g?
-
after some research i found out that those wings are original covers for the gobi antennas: PANASONIC TOUGHBOOK CF 19 PARTS & ACCESSORIES
now i still wonder why i dont have those installed with my cf-19. i got a good signal so far but i wonder if i can boost that with those antennas......since they are obviously way bigger.....!
anyone know the difference between them antennas. is it maybe related to the countries and the frequenzy......does that mean i can only use mine in europe and going to have problems in the us...with verizon or sprint.....? t-mobile should have the same standard like europe.....!
would very much appreciate some answers!
thanks -
I would take anything I saw on that web site with a major grain of salt. There is only one Panasonic parts distributor in the US, Heartlands. The antennas are matched to the frequencies of the radio device they serve, if you buy your antennas because you like the way they look you are sure to be disappointed. Let me recommend you to the stickies at the start of the forum.
CAP -
thanks for recommending me to the stickies!
since the gobi radio is the same they should work like you said...!
let me reprhrase my question for you cap:
i dont wanne buy them because they look different....i want to buy them to eventually boost my signal.....there is still no answer to the question if those antennas are made for different countries and frequenzies. -
If the Gobi was installed by Panasonic your machine should have come with the appropriate antennas/"wings", and you should not expect any improvement. If you have added the Gobi yourself you need to contact Heartlands to get the right antennas.

I can tell you that my CF-19 Mk2 was "wireless ready". No "wings", which I have only seen on some Mk1's. I added a Gobi 1000 card. It works just fine as is.

everything was installed by panasonic and delivered in germany. everything works here in europe. i got good signal but just the same as my cell.
maybe someone knows the answer to the question if you need different antennas in different countries. and what the dfference is between those antennas since they seem to work in the same network with same/simular modems/radios.
thanks for your answers so far! -
All kinds of "wings/ears" are just plastic covers. Smaller or bigger... antennas are same (both sizes and freqs).
I use big covers to massage hands -
yeah I have the wings and took one off and it's just plastic the actual antenna is mounted to the lid. Maybe the wings are so you don't put anything too close? hell i got nothing. I think the wings look cooler though.
-
hey guys thx for that. so its not like cap mentioned that those are different antennas.......they are empty after all. i thought already so, now i know for sure!
well i guess they make good bumbers and protect even better. i dont know if they look better......my dream toughbook would be a complete black cf-19...!
by the way those bumbers are not mentioned as spare parts anywhere in europe!
thanks again

Cap was right the antennas are matched for frequency, but those are covered up by the plastic bumpers which are different according to if you got WWAN. I have a Sierra card in mine that I don't use,but that gives me the wings on my model.
-
I believe, no I know, I said, "the really big "wings" are the WWAN antenna covers". I have never owned a CF-19, but I assumed the big wings are on the WWAN version because they are needed to house the antenna. If that is not the case, I stand corrected.

There is nothing to discuss really
Large or small - they are same inside. It's only plastic without any additional space for antennas. You can change them between CF-18/19 series, no difference except of look. -
Sorry for going a bit off-topic, but what are the different antenna-models used for wwan in the CF-18/19 series?
I'm mostly concerned for the frequencies the antennas are specified for.
I have a EU-GPRS -antenna, which might be 850/900/1800/1900 - as the modem is for these frequencies. How will using a high-output 900/2100MHz wwan-card react to this antenna?
regards, Martin -
i got the qualcomm gobi 2000, which covers all those frequencies.....still no big wings....and i wanted to find out if this was a mistake by panasonic or they did it on purpose beecause i ordered it to germany.
wwan or wide area network is the same like 4g or 3g or 3.5g....its just a discription!
i know there is nothing to discuss really.....since you gave me the complete answer to my first question. thx for clearing things completly...!
does anyone have the excact product number for those parts, and how many different exist.....so far i saw 3 different in videos.......no wings, half wings and full wings....!
thanks a bunch...! -
don't know the part numbers, but all I have seen are the three you mention full wings (the kind I have kinda hr gigerish), half length I never have seen these in the wild just on one or two sales videos, and the no wings.
bumpers on cf-19
