    Hi everybody,
    I have recently bought a PDRC station: cf-m34 1GHZ + docking station+ cf-vdl01 touchscreen + cf-vkbl02 + everything to connect the item together.

everything works fine ( touchscreen on on cf-m34 and cf-vdl01, ...) except the touchpad on my keyboard cf-vkbl02.
the PS/2 cable is well connected on the docking station PS2 port. I am able to use the keyboard and function key with no problem but the touchpad does not work on it.

    Does anyone has an idea?

when I look at the hardware configuration on the cf-m34 , I see only one keyboard ( I suppose the obe for the cf-m34). I don't know if I should see 2 keyboard?
do I have to change add a driver ( I don't have added any specific driver for cf-vkbl02).

    thanks for your help
    Maurice

Does the touch screen on the CF-VDL01 remote display work? There is a driver needed for the remote touch screen, and it might be the same driver for the remote keyboard's touch pad.

    Here is the latest driver:

    Title: Touchscreen Driver
    Model Number: CF-VDLxxx (LCD Monitor)
    Operating System: Windows XP
    Language: English (North America)
    Last Updated Date: 2005/08/30
    cfvdl02_xp2k_d020849.exe [3.28 mb]

This file is self-expandable on any Toughbook model‚ but the drivers
can only be installed (used) on the applicable model number.

This shows to be a "Universal Pointer Device Driver" (UPDD) written for Panasonic by Touch-Base Ltd.

Does your docking station have independent PS2 ports for keyboard and mouse? If so you will need a splitter to split the single keyboard PS2 cable into the KBD& mouse. If you have just one PS2 port for the KBD/MOUSE it should just work. The Touchscreen driver has nothing to do with the touchpad on the PDRC.

That break out box is a LedCO item and is not required to connect up the PDRC. It has no PS2 sockets.

I saw at least one PS2 port on the picture of the box in the link to the ebay auction. Don't you also need the box for the serial port to the touch screen?

    hi,
thanks very much for your help.
I will try to answer to each question:
-to springfield: yes my touchscreen works perfectly, including the emergency key and all the function keys and also the power on/off frol the touchscreen.
    - topcop1988: i will check this driver and install it today and i will read the doc .
    - tough-2-go: no, I have only one ps2 port on my docking station and the ps2 cable is connected to the keybd.
I have bought on ebay exactly the complete set you described, including an heavy box connecting everything and a very heavy docking station but I have not installed everything ( only the screen), it is too heavy ( more than 2,5kg i think!). I have a standard docking station.
does anybody has tried only the vdl01 + std docking station +
cable ps2 (docking to to keybd) + key cable (screen to keybd)+ vga serial cable abd db9 cable (docking to to screen?
I will try the complete PDRC ebay set if I cannot make the touchpad on the keybd working...

    regards

Just a guess, something to look at
Hit F2 while booting and look in bios settings to see if there is a setting on external mouse ect

I have connected the PDRC to several Toughbooks, never a CF-M34. I don't have a M34 around anymore and don't recall exactly what it has for connectors. I believe the PDRC was originally intended for use with the M34.

Have you tried the cf-vkbl02 keyboard with another computer? Maybe the touch pad is broken.

    Hi,
I think you are right, the touchpad is probably broken and the seller told me he will replace it soon.
I will give you the confirmation when I will receive the new one.
    best regards
    Maurice

Just some news concerning my problem:
    - I tried to check with another well-tested vkbl02 keyboard and the ps2 cable ( still connected to PS2 port of the docking station+cf-m34):
=>same problem, all keystokes ok, but keyboard 's touchpad still not working: So the keyboard is not the problem.
    - I followed the method suggested by Tomcat57 in his post, ps2 cable + USB adapter connected to an USB port on my PC: touchpad ok!
    - same test with ps2cable+USB adaptor connected to an USB port of the the cf-M34 docking station+CF-M34=> touchpad ok!

So I don't understand why the touchpad does not work with the direct PS2 cable connection to the PS2 port and why it works with the same PS2 cable +USB adaptor to an USB port but thanks to tomcat I have found a way to make my PDRC installation working!

Just one problem remaining, the fn+F3 ( to switch the external display) or more generally all other special combination keys fn +F1,F2 F3....F10) does not work with the vkbl02 keyboard , but this is not a major problem for me.
thanks again for your help an sorry for my poor english ( I am french).

First off: which CF-M34 do you have? (What is your system's Model Number; such as CF-M34xxxxxxxxx?)

Then; are you sure all the necessary Panasonic drivers are installed?

    I have 2xcf-m34:
    -1Ghz m34C: mk7
    -400Mhz: m34j
    same problem with both models.
I use 2 different docking stations and same problem with both.

I have tested several driver, the last one is the one you proposed in your previous post and which is the last one proposed on the panasonic canadian site for cfvdl02, it works also for cfvdl01( see below ref and updd hardcopy).

As said before the touchscreen works fine including hot keys.
I don't know if there is a specific driver for the keyboard to make it working with direct ps2 connection?.

For one thing, if you look at Page 7 of the current PDRC Operating Instruction Manual you will note that the keyboard shows to be connected to the display via a USB connection instead of a PS/2 connection, whereas Page 6 of the older manual shows a completely different connection setup.

Though these displays are different (CF-VDL03 vs. CF-VDL02), one wonders if this could be a clue?

Guys, that driver is for the monitor, I believe it is just a touchscreen driver (UPDD?) it could also drive the touchpad. The display talks to the computer through its own serial cable, the keyboard, where the touchpad resides, talks to the computer through a PS2 type cable. Any driver for the keyboard would be labeled CF-VKBxxx, I've never seen one. I don't use the keyboards in my installations so I'm not sure how to hook one up. It makes sense that they have USB connectors for the later versions as PS2 ports have pretty much gone the way of the wild goose. This is a keyboard connection issue, not a driver issue.

Correct no drivers are needed to have the touchpad working as you were able to get the darn thing working using a usb adapter, windows will have a default driver that wll allow basic functionality
