I got an original cd drive for my 29 and then took it apart and soldered the two pins together. I have a GMA-480n dvd burner combo drive installed. If I have it in and I try to enter the bios it hangs on the loading screen saying please wait. Ive waited for about 5 min and I just reset the computer and removed the drive. With it removed it goes to bios fine. The cd drive works great otherwise and loads fine in windows. any idea what the problem is?

Hanging up ,sounds like it is not configured properly
That’s exactly what happens if the jumper is not done

Some DVDs do NOT work regardless of the setup.... They just don't work and play well with Panny.

The fact that when I Google "GMA-480n" I don't really see a ton of burers for sale... Leads me to believe this drive is nowhere close to working... Where did you buy this? linkage?

well I didint notice but its acually gma-4080n still getting used to this rubber keyboard. Its out of an acer laptop I got it off ebay for cheap

Well It seems to be making it hang on normal boot too. Ive read cds and dvds with it and it works the bios just doesent like it. I did the soldering maybe its was a cold joint and I didnt realize.

Or maybe it is one of the drives that will not work in the Toughbook... It is a possibility.

    probably my luck

edit: figured it out. It was a cold solder joint. I tried bridging it without some wire and it didn't quite reach. I redid it this time with some wire and viola! it picked it right up in windows and works fine. I have the "safely remove hardware" icon where I didn't before and it reboots fine.

thanks. Now just to dig out the silicone and fix this keyboard. Then hopefully going to get that engenius card for this thing so I can use this thing in the garage at work
