Driver discs ?? sounds like something from ebay they sent you...they are trash. Please check out this http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/651584-panasonic-toughbook-cf-18-thread-faq.html It lists where you can find every thing you need.

i downloaded the archive but i want to know if i can get the touchscreen to work without installing everything. keeping it lean has it running pretty quick.
 -

There are some you can cut out, but if you don't install some of them the front buttons etc won't work.
Yes you can get the touch to work with out installing everything.
There are no drivers needed for the CF-18 GPS needed. Just the registery patch. The only reason it is needed is to stop the "mouse jump" as the OS picks up the input from the gps as mouse signal and dances the mouse across the screen. -

it has put two microsoft hid drivers and a microsoft wacom driver in device manager and i cannot force it to accept the fidmou.inf file even after uninstalling the items.
i got an error with the registry patch but i edited the file and it imported into the registry.
there is also a UGX device that needs drivers. it appears it is a bluetooth module but i do not see drivers for it. -

Maybe you have the less common Digitizer model. We all should have asked from the start: " What is the FULL model number?"
 -

Yep, it sounds like you have a digitizer. Check the link that toughasnails posted and see if you unit has a grey pen with a clicker on the side, doesn't have a serial port, check your COA and see if it says "tablet" edition and it has the extended pen hole.
UGX should be bluetooth. It is solved most of the time by installing SP2.
Ok, last thing to do now on the GPS is to make sure it is enabled in BIOS. Then to get some testing software or some mapping software. Your choice.

it is a digitizer model. no missing hardware. service pack 3 of XP did not recognize the bluetooth unit. does anyone know what .inf file to point it to and a direct link to the digitizer screen drivers? thanks!

That's great, now we know for sure what we are looking at (MK4). Will send a PM shortly -

thanks to toughasnails i got the bluetooth software. the drivers for the digitizer will not take, it keeps putting in two ms hid device drivers and a ms wacom driver, even after removing them from the system and trying to force it to the driver in the mouse folder. the digitizer works, when booted form the ubuntu live cd it performs perfectly. just cant get it to work in winblows xp sp3.

any ideas anyone?

So you did not use XP tablet when you did the install...maybe that is the problem. What you need is the restore disk (4 disk set) -

Others have used XP pro but had to play with the drivers to get it to work. What one person did is in one of those threads that I posted. The last driver they installed was the digitizer driver.
 -

It keeps putting in the ms drivers and not the digitizer one.
 -

Did you download the driver straight from Wacom?
 -

no, ill try that next. thanks.
 -

Windows Tablet installs the wacom driver when you install the OS. It's not on download on the panasonic site. You will have to go to the wacom site and download the right driver. If you can't find it will fire up the Mk5 CF-18 that I am getting rid of and see what version driver it has installed.
 -

downloaded the tablet pc driver from Wacom and all is good to go.
 -

Good deal, get everything else working?
 -

yes, thanks! now if I can find a ribbon connector cable for the cf-74 optical drive ill be good.
