I would like to add bluetooth to my cf-18. I have read up on this and it seams there is a way to take a basic USB dongle and hard wire it into the cf-18. I forget the connection they refrence, comething like cn16? I have also read that there is a bluetooth antenna already in the lid of the cf-18. If I read that correctly, its the blue wire?

Does anyone have a write up or instructions on what to solder where? Pics would be great!

I want to use bluetooth to connect to a hard mounted GPS receiver in my 4x4. I already have OEM GPS, but want a better, more accurate antenna. So I am not really interested in the GPS board with a usb port and bluetooth dongle...

    Thanks for the help!

How good are your modding skills
If you are capable you only need a flat cable and break out 4 wires as per the schematic and solder them on a usb plug
And hook up the (blue) coax to the pcb on the bluetooth rather than the built-in ant used in the dongle
Or order the PCB and flat cable direct from that seller, rather than the whole kit
Battery life on a bluetooth device is an issue (I hate them) a sirfIII usb gps (less than $50)is the way that I would go

Ya I was thinking of trying to find a powered bluetooth GPS antenna so that batteries arent an issue. But hard wired MAY be the way I go...

I feel that my modding skills are decent at the least. After building my own fuel injection harness off a 93' mustang to work on my early bronco, I feel up to this for sure!

The other thing I need to mod is the CB in my rig. Through tuning and tweeking and maybe swaping out a final, I should be able to broadcast at 70-85 watts, vs the 4 watts it has out of the box.

I just really like opening things up, and making them work in a non-typical situation. I am VERY interested in doing some cool stuff to my cf18, I just dont have the computer knowlage to feed my modding addiction. I would also like to just do the ...408 gps antenna and not run an external, but I dont know enough about computers.

...can you send me pics, or a link to a write up on where to solder the wires from the USB bluetooth to in the computer?

    Thanks again!!

In 1990 I installed a 5 liter HO FI mustang engine in my 79 stepside ford pu
No kits were available ,I had a friend at the dealer that loaned me the mustang schematics ,aroung 66hr's for the changeover including the hardest part modding the fuel tank with the fuel pump and plumbing in a return line

Teo, might help out with this easy question

@rtreads, None of the units you are discussing, with the exception of the Sarentel, are "antennas". They are complete GPS receivers including antenna. I couldn't agree with TC more, there are so many good reasons to use a SirfIII USB unit as opposed to Bluetooth in your application. If you want your CF-18 to be portable you might want to install a better antenna for your OEM internal GPS. Use both, external for in vehicle and internal for the very rare occasions when you are using your CF-18 as a hand held unit. Teo (Ohlip) might tell you how to improve your internal antenna if you ask nicely.

did a similar swap over in a 67 fastback about 15-16 yrs ago. to get the fuel line where it recirculated to the gas tank was a hoot. funny I did the swap over all by myself and the last thing I needed to do was a ground wire that a ford mechanic did and everything worked out well. a divorce stopped that project and a few others as well............Driller

I had one of those around 35 years ago
I was happy with the standard 335hp/390GT
It sure burned through the fuel...and tires too

I have been visioning the esact setup you describe. A hard mounted receiver that will be either USB or bluetooth that is mounted to the top of the cage. I would also like to get a better antenna for the cf-18 for when we are not in the bronco.

I would be VERY interested in hearing how to swap out the OEM antenna on my system for a better one! ...as well as where to install the bluetooth inside the case of the cf-18.

    Thanks!
