ive just got hold of a cf-18 tablet book,it has no charger but thats not a problem, could someone advise me if it needs a proper panasonic stylus pen or will any pen do,the model no. is cf18bhkzxkm if it,s of any help.
also i think the touchscreen might be shot, all the drivers are installed and it,s been calibrated, but the weird thing is on the right half of the screen it,s perfect, but as you get to the middle and towards the left side of the screen the mouse pointer is approx 2cm away from where you touch, any one with any ideas, thats with the screen in landscape orientation![]()

According to the model number it is just a touchscreen that will work with your finger or any stylus. It is not a digitizer that requires a special pen.
Try to recalibrate the screen to see if that fixes the issue with it being off.
Do a windows search for calwin.exe and then run that program and use a stylus to hit the red plus marks that might do it for you.
If it is still messed up then uninstall the drivers and reinstall them and try to calibrate again. I have had bad drivers cause problems with the touchscreen not calibrating correctly.

thanks for your help the driver remove/reinstall didn,t work,so it must be the screen,as for the stylus pen i,ll get one of eblag,so i will have to look into the screen issue a bit more, failing that i,ll get shot of it

try a fresh install of windows that fixed my touchscreen problems.
i would reload windows before u attemp to fix the screen it might just need a fresh install. -
i did a check on the panasonic configure site according to my model no.it should have win xp pro,who ever owned it before has put win xp pro tablet on it and it,won,t authenticate on microsoft, ive emailed the seller to see if he would refund a bit of cash,(hell would probably freeze first).the upside is ive got a replacement win xp pro disc,i just hope the coa on the bottom of it is valid, but i will try and get it installed when i get an external cd drive, and then take it from there,so i,ll keep you posted
-
If you have a oem xp pro disk ,the coa on the bottom will work

cheers alex i,ll gone to sort the cf-18 out over the weekend so i will keep you posted on how it goes,in the meantime my backlit keyboard for my cf-29 has turned up so im sorting that out,i just hope it works as it,s second hand

Make sure the OEM disk is OEM only not a DELL or other brand disk just OEM. The cd key will work if you have only the OEM CD and not a DELL or HP cd.

Zippy,
I have set up at least 20 CF-28s with my Dell oem restore disk, XP Pro with SP2. Never had a problem and M$ has never balked at activating with the code from the COA on the computer or one I have bought and added. You have to install the drivers of course, but the Dell disk doesn't seem to install anything which conflicts with the Panasonic drivers.

Really mine never work it just wont take the CD key from the bottom. Then if i use a dell cd key it will not activate once i swap over to the cd key on the bottom unless i call MS to activate it.
Rick had the same problem as me and I think Rob too. Maybe you have a special disklol
-James -
well the copy of windows xp pro sp2 i got from a local computer store, worked on my 29 using the oem licence on the bottom,so it will do the same for the 18,i just need to get an external drive so i can load it in
-
Zippy,
If I wasn't clear I apologize. I do have to call M$, but you just tell the actual english speaking person in Canada that you're replacing the hard drive in your Toughbook and they hook you right up! The point is every one knows someone with a Dell restore disk and it doesn't install any thing that conflicts with Toughbook drivers. You just delete the Dell folder that's installed and go from there.

i have a dell xp pro disc too and it loaded with 3 different valid coa's
-
I have never tried a Dell disk, as I have never owned a Dell
I have built a lot of desktop computers and I purchase the oem disks
Alex -
Wow my dell disk will not accept any CD keys besides Dell CD keys.
I have to use a Dell CD key to load the OS then switch the key once windows is loaded and then call MS to activate.
It is a pain in the but. But if i use a OEM disk i just use the CD key on the toughbook an it will activate over the net. I hate calling india for activation.
-James -
I had reinstalled windows from a cd on my CF-18 but the disk had bad coa and caused my copy to not be genuine but I used Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder to switch the CD Key on the COA certificate on the bottom of the nb and made that genuine. I didnt have to call India
-
When I call M$ I get Nova Scotia, not India. They talk a little funny, but my mother immigrated here from Nova Scotia when she was 16 so between her and my grandparents I can say ay with the best of them. Just kidding Alex, Ohlip, Canuckcam, et al. My main point is, if you want to do a legitimate install you are going to find a Dell disk a lot easier to find-borrow than an XP OEM or Panasonic restore disk.
