hi new here, but been reading here for a long time
I have 2 cf-18s, a mk3 digitizer (just purchased) and a mk4 ive owned for 2 years as car diag system, I love these pcs
ive tried multiple times to install windows 7 to get t/screen working on my mk4
, and I can only get a response on screen when touched of the mouse pointer going straight to right corner
what ive read here leads me to believe is screen bad, but ive ordered a aftermarket replacement, my question is will my new screen just work as soon as fitted, or is it a case of complete fresh install again??

my second question is regarding my digitizer mk3, do I go down the route of xp tablet (if I cand find a iso) xp pro or windows 7?
my preference is 7 of course
, but my mk 4 has bn enough to drive me mad trying to get t/screen to function,so far I been using as normal l/top

id love some help to get my 18@s fully functional
ive read the cf-18 faq a million times prior to posting
I need a idiot proof tutorial, the more I read the more confused I become

    thanks

Welcome to the Panasonic Toughbook Forum

Myself if you want W7 then I would upgrade to a CF-19. I found that W7 on a CF-18 is just tooooo slow. I would get the restore disk for the 2 18's (XP + Tablet).

No No No................................ I have 2 CF18 MK5 running windows 7, you have to do a good search and find the right driver. Win 7 runs fine on CF 18, not a screamer but more then adequate. Before you buy a screen try diff drivers. Do a search I posted a topic when I installed Win 7 on mine with working touch screen and pen stylus, using a prior post like "installing Win 7 in CF18",

I also installed Win 8, but didn't like it went back to Win 7, cause it wouldn't see my SD card, I use this for data transfer, so it is a must have, no negotiations. :)
I also installed Android and go it working, but it is still to BETA, to be useful in daily use, but can be done look for premade OS install on the internet, their getting better!!!! :)

Also I do KNOW that the order of install is very critical, some drivers have to go in before others!!!

try some of these posts............................................................................................ :)

If your pointer is going straight to the right corner you have a bad touchscreen. You can TRY to run a thin piece of plastic around the inside edge of the bezel to see if anything is stuck there... (Think 2 liter bottle of coke for thin plastic)

But I would bet your touchscreen needs repair/replacement.

    What he said.
To answer the question it's like a broken wire in a circuit. Properly installed you should see instant results. No magic involved....like a headlight system....the battery is fine, the switch is fine but results don't show up until you fix the broken headlight.

If you work with W7 or Vista set bios to tablet.

I run Windows 7 on a CF-18 Mk3 Touchscreen. SSD helps tremendously. Max out your ram. Faster than XP on mine.

I had similar screen problems on a CF-19. Sounds like a bad touch screen. Not all that hard to replace.

There are driver tricks to get everything working on CF-18 with Win7 but there are some cookbook procedures in this forum.
