Got my cf-19 yesterday, cheapest mk6 I could find on ebay and it's not too bad. Has 5360 hours on it and looks great. Couple pressure spots and a bright pixel but that doesn't bother me for the price. Its a CF-191dyc51m, has GPS and everything works.
I couldn't find much information on installing windows 10 on the mk-6 so I figured I would give it a shot. I used the free upgrade (on screen keyboard is assistive technologies right?)
So far everything works great, had to make one small change to the settings, I selected to disable the touch when the pen is being used as this would cause the pen to be jumpy. Also uninstalled the panasonic bluetooth software as the windows bluetooth support is pretty good. All the other Panasonic software seems to work as designed

Sounds like you got youself a nice 19. Check out the link in my sig to shut down the spying in W10.
-
It's better not to disable that "spying" - small problems with some Microsoft services, Skype. But ok, not that important.
shackwrrr, does your mk6 have 1 or 2 ram slots? Is bluetooth integrated into wi-fi adapter?
I want to try 195D (mk7 with multi-touch) -

I figured out a cool trick with the GPS. Since our GPS chip is com based it is only in use when a program accesses the com port. windows 10 added integration of GPS systems like a phone where the GPS is there for any program to use. I found a piece of software that pulls the GPS data from the com port and translates that to windows 10 sensor data. Now the GPS works like a phone where you can enable and disable it by turning location on and off. This allows you to use windows (bing) maps with turn by turn navigation. Also google maps on chrome works, as does any other website that can pull location. http://www.turboirc.com/gps7/

The connector is not even on the pcb to plug a separate bluetooth module into.
No retrofit of the separate bluetooth module unless you swapped out the entire WWAN board with one from an older model. Then the BIOS might not see it.
This mk6 has a Intel 6205 in it now.BaRRmaley likes this. -
That's bad. For example, 6205 doesn't have bluetooth 3.0, so it's impossible to connect newest mice, doesn't support 802.11ac... Last mk6 I disassembled had only 1 RAM slot (and no rear camera) - strange configuration.
I will disassemble next mk6 after it dries (watertest and washing))
Also looking for mk6 bios dump -
What exact model of mk6 do you need a bios for?
-
According to this spec sheet
ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/toughbook/specsheets/TB-19_ss.pdf
It uses the 6235 which is wireless N and bluetooth 4.0
The Intel 7260HMW would be the equivalent wireless AC card for the HMC PCIe slot. Not sure if the bios would support it though. You only get bluetooth 4.0 with the 7260, we would need an M.2 slot to be able to get the new 4.2 bluetooth. -
You are right, it's 6235. I've tried to upgrade it to 7260 to get 802.11ac, but bluetooth didn't work. That was one of the reasons (second was 1 RAM slot) I'm on MK5
Shawn, CF-191HYAG1M -
I had the same issue with bluetooth 4.0//7260 on a CF31.

@shackwrrr :
now there is a neat idea ... not intending to derail this thread ... i have (once again) been looking for a GPS solution and 'nix is not going to be the answer for me .Last edited by a moderator: Nov 8, 2016 -
With his solution wouldn't you need wifi or something to continuously download the maps?
Will Google save all the maps locally? -
In windows 10 Bing maps is preloaded and you can chose to download offline maps. I have my veriozon account hooked up so it doesn't bother me as it's not my primary navigation device. -
)
So any WLAN card works, but only 6235 is visible and can be turned on/off in BIOS, both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth strings.
Intel 7260 (AC+bluetooth) or Atheros (AC+bluetooth) cards - no WLAN/Bluetooth options in BIOS, Wi-Fi works in OS, no bluetooth.
I've tried to cover pins - no success. Going to install WWAN PCB taken from MK3. It seems like an easy way, except for a lack of bluetooth antenna cable. I really don't want to disassemble this mk6 too much)

uuuggghhh ... W10 .

I don't want to repeat those retrofits with other mk6's, mk7 and mk8, so I think it would be good to find a way to install any WLAN+Bt card like we could do with <=MK5. -

I am betting the problem is in the BIOS itself. You will probably need to re write some of the BIOS code.

Tried to install MK3 WWAN board into MK6. MK6 doesn't power on) Only brightness indicator lights up, no more signs of life. Disconnected that board - ok.

I have decided to do a totally fresh install of Win 10 on this extra drive for my CF 19 mk6.
The final decision to try it was the ability to use the built in GPS with the Windows 10 navigation program.
I believe Windows uses the HERE maps (Navteq,Garmin, etc) I have always preferred those maps anyway.
Garmin Mobile PC requires a few hoops to jump to get it running. I am tired of the hoops.
It's a fully loaded 19 and I will use the mk7 drivers from Panasonic. 64bit only so I will need an 8gb ram chip.
After everything is verified working,
I will follow @Phoenix procedures to disable the "unneeded" extras.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/nbr-windows-10-clean-installation-guide.781178/
I am downloading the USB x86/64 bit install direct from MS.
I wonder if I could get fancy and slipstream the CF 19 drivers into Win 10?..Only if it all works..toughasnails likes this. -
Mine has been running extremely well GPS works when I use the toggle built into windows. My only windows 10 issue is brightness. Windows overrides front panel switches and brightness only changes for a few seconds.

shackwrrr... Sorry... I'm a late comer to this... What was the original OS installed on your CF-19?
-
Does the brightness stay adjusted when you set it in Windows?
GPS toggle? Please explain. Screenshots would be great.
I imagine I will need more info on that GPS tool you used.
How much ram do you have?
32bit or 64bit?
Finally, Did you use the official drivers? -

It seems my way of win10 installation was like that:
clean Win 8 installed on mk3 or mk4
hdd moved to mk5
- to mk3
upgrade to 8.1
hdd moved to mk5
upgrade to win10
hdd moved to mk6
- to mk7
- to mk6
upgrade to creator's update
Maybe even more laptops.
Not counting hdd-ssd-hdd-ssd and ram/wwan changes))
No reinstallation since first time win8 in spite of hardware upgrades/downgrades. I'm too lazy for that))
Extremely stable system))

This win 7 install has been in many different laptops also. Figured it was time to start over.
-
It looks like slipstreaming drivers is possible by using the MSMG toolkit.
https://www.ghacks.net/2017/05/02/create-custom-windows-10-installations-with-msmg-toolkit/
It will also remove a lot of the bloat BEFORE the install of Win10.
I will try that later. First time I will use the standard MS release iso. -
Win10 is up and running on the mk6.
Brightness button is wonky. I will cure that later. Changing brightness via Panasonic Dashboard app works fine.
I manually changed all the items recommended by Phoenix. Interesting learning experience. I did discover that most or all of those items are changed by the automatic Win10 cleaner programs. Still glad to do it manually at least once to learn what all is being done.
It auto activated once I finally turned the wifi on.
I recommend NO wifi until the install is complete.
A couple more tweaks and I will transfer the drive to the mk6 with gps, camera, and fingerprint. Then I can evaluate how those items function.
I did use the mk7 driver cab file although I extracted everything using 7zip. There are several extractions that need done. It is not as simple as the bundle packs. Maybe I am missing something on the cab install? If anyone knows, please chime in.
Right now the mk6 has 4gb ram. I am getting an 8gb chip and see if it works on a camera model. Win 10 runs and boots reasonably fast. Slow to shut down though.
I will need to adjust my thinking going to Win10. Adjust to using the touchscreen for navigation. -
Late getting back to reply, long holiday weekend.
The brightness adjustment for me, if I adjust using the front panel buttons the brightness only changes for a few seconds and reverts back to what windows wants it to be. Also seems to be a couple brightness steps missing. I can change the brightness using the windows action center but only get 4 steps of brightness from 0-100% This has not bothered me much as I use the PC in pretty bright environments and full brightness is needed 99% of the time.
The GPS toggle I was referring to is the Action center "location" toggle. I can turn on active GPS usage using this toggle. I am using the user level driver https://www.turboirc.com/gps7/ to bridge the gap between the COM port based GPS and the windows sensor API. Using the very small piece of software it makes GPS access seamless. I can enable location in the windows action center and I am able to use GPS location in any application that is open. I have used it inside of Chrome with google maps and the built in Bing maps.
I did not use any MK7 drivers when I did mine, I used what windows 8 drivers that worked from MK6 and the rest are whatever windows used.
Mine still only has 4gb of RAM and is on 64bit windows. Even heavy use of google Chrome It runs very smoothly. My work provided laptop is a Lenovo e530 with a 2520M and 8gb and I think it runs very similar to the toughbook. -
)
I had to use Chrome for a week on 4GB mk6 (+HDD, not SSD). It was an awful experience))
-
I went by the linked install instructions and I agree.
Staying offline will prevent any updates or driver installs until I get the official Panasonic drivers installed and I disable anything that I prefer to not have running. Saves Windows from getting confused.
I want to have everything setup the way I prefer, THEN let Windows update and do it's thing.toughasnails likes this. -
Great input Shawn. Although I am not a windows user, I do have a MK-6 CF-19 that is now gathering dust. If I don't sell it locally, I might just pop in an SSD and see how it goes as you've (and others) have described above. But then, I'd have to send it to you for a custom gps install.
-
Mail it on over. I should still have a 19 gps setup

Trick was to check the box to copy the drive signature to the new drive.UNCNDL1 likes this. -
CF19 mk6. Camera model.
1 memory slot only.
8gb chip works.
I think this is UEFI/BIOS...sometimes it bypasses Panasonic screen and goes directly to win 10 boot.
I pulled the HDD to test 8gb chip. Rebooted and NO Panasonic screen. Instead I got text (style I have never seen before) stating no boot device found.UNCNDL1 likes this. -
Finally got back to my mk6.
I installed a few tweaks such as oldnewexplorer and classic shell.
Then I tested gps/ win 10 maps with wifi off. It worked fine. Even gave 3 route choices.
Now I will test the 19 for a while.toughasnails likes this.
