I just upgraded to a cf-19 from a cf-29, surprised at the difference in size, I didnt realize how much smaller thr cf-19 was. I'm interested in adding a backlit keypad and possibly the oem camera. Has anyone done this that can offer any tips? Thanks
-
1) There is no front camera option in CF-19.
2) Backlit keyboard.. just choose the one you like and install itRob has emissive keyboard for USD 257 and rubber kb's are USD 0 to USD 200 on ebay.
-
the camera option is on the bottom of the unit and takes up a ram slot. Also according to Rob it is soldered in somehow so not an easy plug and play type deal.
-
You guys are right on all accounts with everything!
Thanks guys! -
Definitely get the backlit (Emissive) keyboard. As far as camera, get a USB HD and plug it in. Works great. On the keyboard, you can get rubberized, or non rubberized. Your choice. I like the non on my 19 and what a difference in low light situations. Also, if your inclined, many here are not, try the 64 bit Windows 7. I am using Windows 8 CR right now and I like it as much as 7 Pro. Without the camera and with Win 7, you can add the extra 4 Gigs of RAM that 32 bit systems cannot use.

So am I to understand that if I am running win7, 32 bit, this cf-19 has a max ram capacity of 4gb, (2gb currently installed and I can add 2gb more in the other slot)

Yeah it's primarily for tablet mode. just tilt it up a little and snap a picture or video. Those leds are blinding in real life.

What are you using this machine for? I updated to 8Gb myself, but most users should work fine with 4Gb.
What's the type-number of your new 19? -

Has anyone used the CF19 camera to capture videos in tablet mode?

I am not sure if we have any members now that have one to try it . -
Just for the info. I already posted this long time ago. The CF-19MK3 with builtin Camera has only one slot of RAM.

I am in the process of acquiring one. While test driving it I had read this post and I tried it. Pics and video worked fine in tablet model. The camera position and alignment actually are designed to work in tablet model (lid turned and laid down over the keyboard) without rotating the screen rotation. If you try to use it while in laptop mode or if you change your screen rotation it is all upside down, really hard to align...
2 MP not great resolution, but a pic is worth 1000 words, so it sufficeth.
Also I removed the camera/RAM cover it only has 1 RAM spot. after much help from here and toughtbooktalk.com I am going to purchase 1 stick of 4 gig and drop the bottom to swap it out. currently it only has 2. I will try to follow up with that in a few days...

I'm really curious how it will work. Keep us updated!
I've been thinking about this upgrade often, but the fact that it is a 2mp camera and that I loose a ram-slot (and need to update the 2 4Gb sticks to one more expensive 8Gb stick) kept me from upgrading. -
so when you say only one ram slot does that mean the other one is not present? or is it taken up by the camera? Just trying to figure out if it soldered in or what. I have one myself and am too lazy to take it apart. It came with 4gigs ram installed and that's has been sufficient for now, but just thinking of future upgrade options.
and Alec besides the "uniqueness" I hardly ever used it. it still has the little protective plastic thing on it. I am just a sucker for crap like that ask me about the spas-12 I got years ago, -
-
hahaha, this thread is veering way off course...
What on earth did you think when you bought that SPAS-12?? WW3? LOL.
But I've had my moments as well, buying a ghillie suit in one of the most dense populated countries in the world... Or a double antenna for GPS/GSM that is used on trains.... really nicely made stuff, but what on earth was I thinking?? -
Back on the subject at hand

Will the generic SiRf 4 GPS modules on ebay, for the CF-18's work in a 19?
Got hold of a 19MK1 and thinking of migrating to it from my 18MK4 (ALL the bells and whistles)...
Brian -
Post a link to the modules you are referring to.....

Looking to save some money, that's all....

It "will" work, but you need to make a custom cable.

Old thread, but as far as the answer to the camera being soldered or not, I believe the answer is on ebuy item # 131254506235. I would post the pics, but don't know the correct resize for here. Maybe someone else could do that for future searchers.
The item is being sold by that well known company in Chicago Land -
I don't recall all the details, but I recall a thread stating that you need the motherboard the originally had a camera. You can not add a camera to a standard motherboard.
The camera is not soldered on. It is plug in, but you must remove a ram socket for the camera to fit.
Most motherboards don't have the connector for it, from what I read.
Someone here quite a while back did remove a ram socket and the camera still would not work. It was years ago... -
