I have a CF-19 MK2 with Win 7 32 bit, will it hold 8GB to? Or does it have to be 64bit win 7?
Thanks -
it will see it, but won't use more than ~3.9GB. Go for 64-bit.
Wow, judging by the screenshot above, the U7500, and more importantly, the GM965 chipset supports more than 4GB ( ARK | Mobile Intel® GM965 Express Chipset (Intel® 82GM965 Graphics and Memory Controller)). If it takes 6GB, than it may as well take 8GB.
I thought the first 19 with 8GB was the mk3 (GS45).
Time to check whether my 19mk4 will take more than 8Gb - will try first with 2+8GB -
GM965 Express will work with 8GB RAM just fine. It might be an expensive enterprise though, given the price for 4GB DIMMs DDR2 nowadays...
-
The official Panasonic documents say 4gb max on the Mk2, but as we all know that can be wrong.
IF you already have 32 bit installed and have more ram look up "ram disk" you may be able to use it that way. -
I think I will install win 7 64.
Thanks for the help -
Hello, I just upgraded my CF-19 MK3 to a SSD with Windows 8.1 64. I added Hynix 8GB 2X4GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800 200pin Sodium but it now fails to boot up.
It works with the previous memory of 4 GB 2X2GB is there something I'm missing to get this up and running?
Regards,

I believe you have the wrong RAM... You should have PC2-5300. (Though I have heard that the 6400 will work) Plus... Toughbooks can be picky about type of RAM... I buy nothing but Crucial Brand RAM... It's more expensive but it has never failed me.
Perhaps one of the CF-19 fanatics will chime in... -

I have Crucial DDR2 800Mhz (PC2-6400) in my CF30mk1 (2x2GB) which works beautifully and on that CF-30 specs say it should use PC-4200 (533Mhz) !
i.e. this RAM works at 800Mhz with 6-6-6 timings, and at 667Mhz with 5-5-5 timings (CL, tRCD, tRP), etc.
Did you try with to see if it boots with only one stick at a time ? maybe one is not good.
hell, if you're lucky, it could have been a temporary slot contact issue - re-seating the sticks well might do the trick.
There is (only?) one forum member here who has 8GB on his CF-19mk3 (2x 4GB DDR2-800 sticks).
One other thing to check - as this is right to the maximum memory capacity the GS45 chipset can handle - is whether that sticks use high-density chips (single sided) as opposed to low-density (double sided - chips on both sides of the RAM stick).
For 4GB sticks, if it has 8 chips on each side (2Rx8) - total 16chips, than it has low density chips, and that probably is the compatible configuration.
Unfortunately, Crucial only has two 8GB DDR2 kits, and both have high density chips (4 on each side), so I'm not sure they will work.
Can you post the complete memory Part Number ? or pictures of front and back of stick. -
Hello, I originally tried one Stick at a time, no joy. I am having trouble posting pic's. Here is the details of the ram, It has 8 chips per side total 16 chips
4GB 2Rx8 PC2-6400S-666-12

I had a chat with Panasonic support and they said my toughbook would only work with DDR3L-1333 RAM
Regards,
Beth -
do you have any other recent DDR2 laptop to check that ram into ?
your low-density RAM should work. I'm not sure if a BIOS update would be needed (they don't release many versions), maybe someone with a mk3 can post the latest version available.
That guy from Panasonic chat support, either misunderstood your model number, or is smoking some weird stuff.
DDR2 (@1.8V) cannot be physically switched with DDR3 (@1.5V), not to mention the voltages.
The only CPU's that require DDR3 L are the Haswell architecture 4th gen Core; Even the latest CF-19Mk7 (i5-3340m) launched this year, is still is Ivy Bridge (3rd gen), same as Mk6 (i5-3320m); they can use DDR3(1.5V) or DDR3L(1.35V). The Mk4, and Mk5 only use standard DDR3.
Just to be sure what we've been talking about, can you post your CF-19 model number, from the main BIOS page ? (i.e. CF-19Kxxxxxx). -

There is no way you can put DDR3L-1333 RAM in a MK3...will not fit.

Hello, the Model # from the BIOS page is CF-19KHRAGAM
BIOS V3.00L14
I went to the Panasonic Website to check on Bios,Ec updates. I only found two available when I tried to choose Model version only CF19/C/D/E(Mk1) & CF-19R/S (Mk4) are available?
The Mk1 is BIOS V1.00L16/EC V1.OOL11 (Feb. 2008)
The Mk4 is BIOS V4.00L1(Aug. 2010)
I don't want to guess, and make a brick.
I tried the ram in another laptop, looks like both sticks are bad. I contacted the seller and he's offered to exchange them. what type should I go for??
Regards,
Beth -
I buy straight from Crucial.com... Or cross reference it over to an ebay seller.

There is no update BIOS for your CF-19MK3...sorry. The memory you need is...
DDR2 PC2-5300 667MHz
or
DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz which will run at the slower speed...I am told
Myself I would of stuck with 4GB memory 32Bit OS in the 19. It should run very fast with that since you have a SSD in it.
cf-19 max ram
