Hi ya all,
I just bought a used cf-19 off of eBay. The cosmetic condition is excellent(looks almost new) and I was surprised to see in the bios that it had almost 6000 hrs! But it needs a lot of help with drivers. But first here is what I have:
cf-19chbaxbm
windows xp professional panasonic(or so says the sticker)but I see no panasonic logo when I go from control panel!
dfqx3993xb
I have a microsoft windows xp sp3 disc but no recovery disc.
What else do I need to get this beauty back in shape?
Any input will be much appreciated

It can be done but its time consuming, and the driver install order must be followed or you loose functionality
Read this thread, you will find the download links thread, and threads that contain information from the membership on how to get the driver order right

The panasonic recovery dvd, and a usb dvd rom is your best option in my opinion
They are a small price to pay for the hassle and time saved when you need to fresh load and you will have everything working from the start
Let me know if your interested in a disk, I will look to see what I have
The missing logo is the sign that this was not loaded from the factory image dvd , Index of ./OEM PC Information/ is the link to the logo
If you run into problems , we will try to work you through it......that is if we see that you have taken the time to at least search for your answers here , beforehand -

You are looking for a MK1 RESTORY DISK. No other disk will work -
Thank you Alex and TopCop1988 for your valuable input.
TopCop, I appreciate your offer of the files, but if Alex can get me the Panasonic recovery cd that would be awsome. It would be easier
I am actually waiting for a usb dvd rom and a recovery cd(not panasonic) that I have bought from eBay. I should be getting them in a couple of days.
I did some reading on the net and some people say that you have to be careful with those NON-PANASONIC recovery discs . You guys just gave me some homework to do.So I really want to fix this computer before tackling the next issue of installing an integrated gps. So thanx again -
thankyou toughasnails too for your advice
this is the disc I ordered
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
do you think it'll work? -
toughasnails Toughbook Moderator Moderator
NOPE. You just ordered a driver disk that a guy went on panasonic's web site and downloaded the drivers FOR FREE and then took your $10.00
. He got them all from the link that topcop posted for you to look at.
You need one that looks like this BUT THIS ONE WILL NOT WORK . ebay has none on there that will work on your MK1 -
I will look through my software tonight, and let you know what I find
It's a good thing you only spent (wasted) $10
It's cheaper to just browse through the info here on the forum as I suggested
I recommend you do some reading before throwing out any more money, that money is best saved for worthwhile upgades -
I do appreciate all the help guys!
I should have come here earlier!
And Alex if you do find that disk I'll be more than happy to buy it from you! -

, your time for that non-Panasonic disk to come in, invest the time to download all the files I referenced to a USB thumb drive, follow the Installation Instructions shown, and get your Mk1 CF-19 back in shape.
The two files I mentioned (not available from Panasonic, except via the Panasonic CF-19 Series Product Recovery DVD Disk) are simply a picture ( OEMLogo.bmp) file and a Text file ( OEMInfo.ini) placed in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. They then show up on the Windows System front screen.

another question:
before installing the recovery files do I have to downgrade from xp sp3 to xp sp2 or no? -
First- Load windows , using the recovery dvd, or an oem disk
Second- Update to sp-3 , using a windows service pack update disk
Third - If you are using the recovery dvd ,run windows update , and install all patches , if installing using an oem disk ,don't run windows update quite yet, this is where you start the long process of panasonic driver installs
Forth-If you are using the recovery dvd you will find that one or two drivers may be out of date , wireless networking as an example, and you will need to find the latest driver and update it, at this point you are finished
If you are using the oem disk, now run windows update and install all patches, then as above, look for out of date drivers -
TopCop1988 Toughbook Aficionado
it's already loaded with an "OEM" copy of Windows XP Professional w/SP3 update.
-
Ok, this is what I have done so far:
1...I downloaded and unpacked all the files from the panasonic support site mentioned by TopCop above; except the the first updates and the s-ata hdd drive that do not have a download button on that page. Unpacking was done in the order of that list of the instalation procedure.
2....reboot
3....did a windows upgate
4....did a Microsoft update
5....updated 2 drivers from the device manager:
intel pro wireless and
realtek fast ethernet
The rest of drivers say they have the last update even if the pic
of device manager still looks the same as the pic I uploaded above!!
Four yellow question marks!!
6....reboot
Still no wireless( it says the hardware radio switch is off) but I know I have it turned on in the port by the card readers. And the function keys are still no-go !! Among others things.
What did I do wrong?
And TopCop, there is no cf-19 on the list of "read before posting " -
and by the way,
I used a usb flash drive to install the drivers. I am still waiting for my external dvd-rom. -
Well I just found out That I had to go to c:/ util2
and do all that good work !!!
This is harder than making pizza!! -
btw I sent you an email -

Hardasnails, it's true the disk is so easy, but doing it the hard way is also fun and the feeling of accomplishment we get at the end is great!
Alex, I did not get your email!
I am happy the cf-19 is coming back into shape little by little !! -
sorry Toughasnails to change your handle by mistake!!!

I have been called worse
-
Alex, I did get your message and I replied.
But I am not sure if went through. Did you get it? -
Well thanks to you guys I did the install and got the wifi working great!
I still have 3 issues:
1- Fn key not working
2- 3 uknown devices in device manager
3- touch pad not right(since day one) pointer erratic sometimes
What did I miss? Any ideas? -
Is it because I think I had difficulties with
Make SDA folder and copy
"C:\UTIL2\drivers\sd\sdpabus.dll" in
"C:\Windows\System32\sda".
thank you -
toughasnails Toughbook Moderator Moderator
Go to device manager and go to one of the unknown and click update, you are going to browse my computer for driver and then click browse again .Go to C:\util2\drivers and click OK then click next. It should find the driver no problem at all and install it for you. If you are lucky you can do this for all the unknown. -
I am giving up for now !!
I'll wait until I get my recovery dvd , then I'll do a clean install of windows and recover all drivers.
I have been getting the message "Unsuported touchpad", but at this point I'll wait until I recover the system to find out what the problem is, if any !! -
The dvd shipped out today , It will make it easy
It will take around 10 days as I shipped it from the west coast of Canada -

Thankyou both Alex and TopCop.
I could have done it the hard way but it would have taken me hours and hours (which I don't have)to navigate in that maze between files and updates. It's the order of instalation that got me twice!!!
Thank God for DVDs !!! -
When you get your new CD, get everything up and running, make sure you burn an image of your operating system or back an image up to an external drive.... I have a couple of all of my systems on 3 externals, plus monthly back-ups.... What a difference this makes in restoring your computer life!!!
-
Thank you Alex for the disk. I couldn't wait for it to get here so I had ordered a recovery disk from Heartland for $35 which I received the next day! So Now I have 2 disks. I used the one from Heartland to recover the system. It was a walk in the park in beautiful weather!
Now all the buttons work great, and there are no question or exclamation marks in my device manager, including the touchpad.
The touchpad, however is acting funny. Every time I tap on it the cursor jumps an inch or two to the left...!!!!
Is the touchpad defective or did I miss something!
One thing I did not do is to dowload the updates from the Panasonic driver center. I did not know if the disk came with the updates or not.
Any ideas where I should go from here? -
The only updates I did were the windows updates.
-
Your original basic windows load was missing some features
I bet its the touch pad mouse click causing this
Go into mouse properties and disable touch pad mouse click
That feature is installed automatically using the restore dvd -
All I see under touchpad tab(in mouse properties) are Button configuration and Tap configuration. I can't see where to disable "touch pad mouse click" !
-
I had to dig around for an xp laptop ,so on my cf-30 Tap configuration
Hope this is what you are seeing
There is a checkbox marked use Tap
Uncheck -
Just did that....but didn't fix it !!
-
Did this issue happen with the first windows load ?
-
yes Sir.
It's been like this, and it looks very clean though!! -
If this turns out to be a hardware problem, then I'll just have to replace it.
I have read in another post that replacing the touch pad is a rather simple procedure. I also ordered a backlit keyboard, I read one of your posts Alex, and I know you are not fond of those but it will come in handy for me. For now I have to find out if the touchpad problem is sofware related or not.
And thank you all for your input. -
I think its a simple problem. I said this coz after installing the OS using the recovery disk it is was it is when you tap on the the touchpad. It is suppose to be in normal/default condition.
I will say cleaning it up the touchpad not only on the open suface but under/beneath using a folded thin palstic material that swipe in under. Sorry! on my english as can't really how to expain it properly. This might have dirt or dust particle on the underside.
Edit: before i forgot, Also include the LCD bezel clearance between the glass and frame using a used toothbrush but very carefull not scratch the protector.

HI Guys,
I've been following this thread with much interest - good info.
I have a quick question regarding Win 7 support for the CF-19CHBAXBM - i believe that's the MK1. Has anyone tried it or know if it works?
I have a legacy fleet of 9 which i've added to this year but all with Win 7. It would be nice from a support desk view to have a common OS to give to users.
Cheers,
Zac -
Guys, got it licked....
Install the VISTA bios - didn't realize there were 2 for this model, XP and VISTA bios' - which then adds a number of 'Unknown Devices'.
This in turn allows you to install the MISC driver - which was our sticking point. All good from there.
Hope this helps some othr weary warrior.
Regards,
Zac -

I would only offer him maybe $25.00 . You can get them at Heartland services for $35.00 shipped to your door in 2 days. They take credit cards or money orders but it takes a lot longer.
