Just got a cf-28 800mhz on Ebay. Floppy, no HD/caddy/battery/ac adapter. I was looking at the power adapter input and it looks like a barrel style, except that it has just 2 small pins sticking out. Is this right? Granted, they are bent where I tried to insert a barrel style connector, but I have never seen this style of input on a laptop. I paid $122.00 for it, and it is supposed to have a touchscreen. Not sure if I should return this to the seller. Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Robert

That's broke. It *might* work as-is, but probably won't survive too many insertion/removal cycles of the power plug in that condition. This is what you're supposed to have there:

Thanks Gravitar, you confirmed my suspicions... Kinda figured that it was effed up. How tough is it to replace one of these, or should I bother?

If you're good with a soldering iron and don't mind having to COMPLETELY disassemble the chassis, it is doable.

I'm working on the same thing. I have a 600 with the two pins. I have been using it for over a year and no problem and I don['t think I will have any problems with it.

I do have a couple of dead MB's and decided, after procrastinating for months, at least, that I woould unsolder the plug and resolder the good one which is fro the dead MB. I've done some coard work and thought this would be not a big deal. Well, I was wrong. I've used three soldering irons and guns up to 400 watt and I can't get good plug off the darn plug off the dead motherboard. There is a cover over the top of the plug that has to be un-soldered and bent away and then you can unsolder the plug, at least that was the way I saw it. I have a descent solder sucker that has worked perfectly on other things. The flat pins might be twisted into the board then soldered. Not sure. But I'll be dipped if I can get the thing out. I'm not beat, not yet and will work on it again in a few days when I get time. If you try it and get it out I would sure like to hear the trick, if there is one. I will share what I find. If you have an old board I would definitely fiddle around with that before I whipped the 28 apart. There was someone awhile back that was selling the plugs brand new on eBay. I will post here if I come up with something. All take care and enjoy your lives as you knew them. Spark

stoke7up in this thread appears to have done the solder thing.

If any of you are looking for a board to "harvest" a connector from and to practice on, LMK and i'll find you a P266 CF27 board. no sense in destroying a CF28 board..
