the RAM link forum is now closed? I wanted to post there. I bought this from new egg based on the info I got in the RAM link.
    CORSAIR 1GB 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Laptop Memory Model VS1GSDS400 - Retail
this does not fit, the package says DDR1 PC3200, I am guessing that I need a DDR2? PC3200. this card will almost fit, it is about a millimeter too wide and it is a millimeter too tall if stood on the end where the pins are. I am going to send it back to new egg but need some advice on what to order exactly?

    1gb ddr2 pc5300 works

The ddr1 module you purchased works in mk1-mk3 models

interestingly the add for it never said ddr1 or ddr2, just PC3600, I naively thought it was exclusive to PC3600 to be ddr2,,, NOT. so for sure, no doubt I need the ddr2 pc5300 ? and again only the 1gb, not a 2gb? I read on here that the system will not boot with the 2gb.
I just put windows 7 ultimate on this cf-29, having some driver issues. I can not dim the screen up and down (no brighness control) and I have no audio. win7 was put onto a new clean WD scorpio 320g HD.
I went to panasonics driver site, the do not look to be supporting cf-29's with win7.

Hey WP, that's the same RAM I bought/returned to the shop. Read this. We learn something new everyday.

that is a good thread Ron, I think I read that too! dangit. I read too much on here then I can never find it again. I do not have good luck with the search feature. that is funny that we both commented on the one millimeter size difference. so glad I was taught the metric system as a kid! newegg says to send it back, they will refund minus restock fee and for me to just reorder the right one. so off to the post office.

    I know what you mean
    Search is next to useless
    I revert back to google

Just post in thread that matches your question as that helps others or start a new thread and someone will help out

You're welcomed, WP. I included as much layman details as I could and if you're ordering the DDR2 PC5300, that will be Kingston KVR667D2S5/1G. No point fitting in a 2gb stick as the 29mk5 maxs out at 1.5 [didn't attempt that, so I can't confirm if there will be bootup issues]

Hi, hoping somebody can help me with this-
not sure if I just got a bum stick of RAM, but I bought a 1G Kingston DDR2 PC5300, and put it in my Mk4 CF-29. The BIOS recognized it, but XP hung at the "Welcome" screen. So, I did the usual, pulled, reseat, restart, etc. It finally came up, and I checked the pagefile setting was in "auto."
On the third try, it booted to a normal XP desktop, but apps would not work, and within 1 minute, I got the BSOD. SO . . I took it back out, and the CF-29 works fine. The specific RAM was:

    Kingston 1024MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHz SODIMM Memory
    KVR667D2SO/1GR

Is this the wrong RAM? Should I manually adjust the pagefile size?
Haven't done MEMTEST on it, frankly not to keen on leaving it in the machine.
    Thanks,
    Al

    Allenom,

I would run memcheck it free to download or it come on some linux cd that you can boot from and do a memory check.

The memory is compatable with the cf-29 Mk4, I have also put a stick of the same ram into a friends cf-29 mk5 and works with no problems.

I would say that you have a stick of faulty ram as you have got a BSOD. I woiuld run it again to see if it will crash with BSOD. If it does crash then you have faulty ram

Thanks for the info, I was concerned that I had somehow selected the wrong RAM. It is weird, because this exactly what happened when I bought RAM for my CF-28, the first stick gave me random BSOD (which is REALLY irritating), fixed with a new stick of the same RAM.

Ok, so I got a fresh stick of RAM and put it in. I ran MEMTEST86 with no errors found. XP comes up ok, but I get regular, weird app crashes:

Any time you go to enter the name of a file to save, the app crashes as soon as you type.

When you select "shutdown," XP goes through the usual motions, but then you get the BSOD.

Take out the RAM, and all is fine again. It seems like XP does not like having 1.5G of RAM??? With the base 512, everything is ok. Makes me wonder if I really "need" the extra. I was considering trying adding 512, to see if the problem recurs.
Maybe I need to reinstall XP???

That would be a good idea
I doubt its a ram issue if you ran memtest
