Hi Guys newbie to toughbooks here. I bought a cf-29L and just installed an emissive keyboard for it. The problem I'm having is the keys do not stay lit when I let go of the F12 key.
I hold down the fn key and when I push the F12 key the keys light up but when I let go of the F12 they go back off. I searched the site here but could not come up with anyone else complaing about that problem. Am I missing something here?
    Thanks
    Doug

    Doug,

Make sure that the smallest connector (on the right hand side) is flipped back on itself with the contacts facing up and not down. This means basically that you must fold it over. Most used ones are already bent in this manner since they have already been installed. But if you purchased a new keyboard.... Then it would not have and you just need to know.

    Please keep us advised...

Yep I found that one out the hard way. I installed it the first time the wrong way and got no light from the keyboard. Found out the correct way to do it here on this forum. Reinstalled the right way and now the keys light up as long as I hold down the F12 key but go out when I let off the key. Also no three levels of brightness. Just on and off.

EDIT: Problem solved I think. Took it back apart and cleaned the ribbon contacts and put it back together. It works now :D Got a suprise also while messing around with it. I was told it was not a touch screen when I bought it, but it sure is.

    Doug -

Good deal on the Touchscreen; but it may turn out to be a bummer in the long run...

These families of CF-29 have an abnormally high failure rate on the Touch Screen; the first sign of that failure is often intermittent operation.

The person who told you it wasn't TouchScreen might have been saying that just to hide the fact that it didn't work right; in fact, that failure may very well have been the reason for original owner getting rid of it.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :( ... it's just that we've seen this very scenario over and over on this forum.

If my computer develops the touch screen problem, does it just affect the touch screen part of it? I really did not want a touch screen when I bought it, but after playing with it some I kind of like it. The reason I bought this toughbook is strictly as a navigation tool in my Jeep, to be able to run my Maptech topo software. As long as the computer still functions if the touch screen craps out I'll still be happy with it.
