hi all. i just got a few cf-29s from when a business upgraded and am having a couple of issues. on one i did a fresh install of xp pro, updated the service pack, and got software from toughbookdrivers.com for all the essential drivers missed in the install. audio, video, modem, touchscreen, etc. what software enables the function keys for brightness, volume, etc? i also do not have any sound on two machines, one with xp, the other with ubuntu. a third machine has ubuntu and the sound works fine. they are all 29c's. the xp machine has an exclamation point for the touchscreen, saying the driver cannot start. not worried about the touchscreen under linux but want it on the xp machine. thanks!

You may want to read a few of the stickies... I think all your answers will be answered.

You should go to a bonified Panasonic website to ensure your drivers are correct.

The touchscreen driver must be extracted and then installed via updating the mouse driver. The hotkey driver (Fn Keys) are installed in a similar fashion as it is the yellow check mark in Device Manager... You should install the sound driver there too.

the sound driver shows as being installed but there is no physical sound output from the speaker. this is for two machines, one is under xp and the other is under ubuntu. the third machine has working sound under ubuntu. nothing is different on the two ubuntu installs.

You have a speaker in there... It is just broken and will need to be replaced.

The good news? They cost $5... The bad news... Shipping is $20.

I just got in 4, 1.3GHz units and two of them had shattered speakers. The bottoms were perfect on them... The speakers just didn't work. They are an easy fix by unscrewing the bottom plate. But you need the speakers first. I doubt you'll be able to fix them unless you are good at micro-micro soldering.

THIS is the only place you should need to go for drivers and software... You will need to register. (It's free!) You may have to look on the left-hand side for "Pre-2003 Downloads" to get what you need... Maybe not.

Look on the stickys, under driver download sites
    Everyone has their favorite

    Toughbooks is the usa site

    Cap’s is the .ca site

I like the main Japan site

Three different opinions ,But we all agree to go to an official Panasonic site

To test if your speakers have failed ,Plug a headphone in the jack under the back cover

It quite simply, could be unplugged as well. Sometimes when users remove the bottom cover, they forget to plug the speaker back in when buttoning it back up. To check, remove the 4 screws from the small cover plate on the bottom of your machine and you should be able to see the plug and make sure it is plugged in.

Actually... The speakers are $6.30... I just got pricing on them today from www.heartlandsi.com. That's where we buy a lot of our parts.
