I was putting a used cf-29 together for my grandson and the speaker would lose volume and get scratchy at different times especially playing a dvd. I thought it was the speaker it self. after tearing it down and checking all the connections the hardware seems fine. Is there known issues with the sound on these?I have the stock driver installed from the sticky here.
Another problem I tried using the configurator here http://www.config.toughbook.com/ and it wont work for any of my toughbooks is there another way to find out what originally came with this? I just get "Forms Processed"
Mine is an h model (CF-29HTM50BM)
Thanks

It is a bad speaker most likely. I have seen them lose "partial power", sound tinny or scratchy and it is always the speaker itself. They cost around $7-$8 each plus shipping at heartlandsi.com... You have to call them to order it.
You must remove the bottom plate (20 screws) to get the plate off... Then 4 screws to release the catches... They pry carefully around the seal as they are water-tight! Then replace carefully. -
It's a Bill Gates thang ... -
