Make sure it's inserted straight and the whole way in. I had one once that locked in place but wasn't fully seated.
    Did you install any drivers?

It would help if you would post your full model number and some more information on the wifi card you took out and the one you put in, "oem"(maybe, depending on who has been into the machine before you) and "intel b/g" don't tell us much.
You mention three different operating systems with no mention of drivers, leading me to believe you are going to have to do some reading, the Toughbook is a lot of things, but plug and play when it comes operating systems and drivers is not one of them.

    Actually; it doesn't. :p

    Model Number (i.e.: CF-29xxxxxxx)?

Obviously, it is a unit that started out with 256MB of base RAM; but it doesn't really "say it all." ;)

So, what is the Model Number of the "OEM card"?
Again, what is this card's ID?

Is Wireless turned ON in the BIOS?

Insufficient information provided to answer this question.

if you guys really think it'll help :p

    CF-29ctkgzdm
    256 onboad + infinion HYs64d64020gbl-7-8 (pc2100 512mb CL2)
    original card was intel wm3b2100
"new" card is from an old dell (del PN OK3444) intel PN WM3A2200BG

im pretty confident in my ability to reseat a card (and i've done it a few times on thie uni with no luck)
I'e installed the intel proset for the 2100 card although the problem is its not showing up at all. not in device manager for XP or win7 hell i even booted knoppix and it didnt see anything :|

when i said nothing jumped out at me in the bios i meant to say there was nothing related to turning WIFI on or off...

there was on option to turn slot an on/off but i tried that in settings still nothing.

and again to just make sure we have sufficient info, the problem isnt with driver per say, its not being detected by the OS at ALL I can figure out drives but when its not under device manager :|

He says his model # is CF-29ctkgzdm

Does that cross-reference to one of the Federal models we've discussed where the WiFi is disabled in the firmware?

I'm guessing then a damaged Mini-PCI slot or perhaps a blown fuse.

Ohlip, can you point this poor fellow to the right area to look for that fuse?

If you had a 2100 card to begin with , as your model came with wi-fi stock
The bios will show centrino when booting if the stock 2100B card is in place

If you are using a 2200gb the bios will not detect the card and will boot as a Pentium M

I take it the stock card failed, thats why you updated it
The 2200bg will not show in the bios settings but will be detected as an unknown device in device manager

If your original 2100B worked and this 2200BG will not show in device manager ,it might be something strange like a special 2200 version made for dell ,not a genaric version

    Gosh darn it!

I appreciate that you guys are trynig to help but you dont seem to get the problem.

the unit will not detect the card at all, the 2100 or the 2200 card simply DO NOT get detected this has nothing to do with drivers, even without drivers it will at a minimum reconize that tehre is a card physically attached, mine unit does not.

I'll update the bios and see if ti boots with pentuim M or centrino logos.

update the bios first. Then report back. Aslo for your info most of the card from IBM, Dull(dell) and etc are locked. Lucky if you've got one from them that work on Panny.

I have never had a stock 2100 card fail to recognize in device manager

If you bought the laptop with that original card ,and it does not work ,the chances are thats its a hardware fault on the m/b
Replace the m/b ,they are cheap when you find them for sale on ebay
Its a bit of work changing the motherboard

Just because it worked in the Dull does not mean it's not set to work only with a Dull and. therefore, not be recognized by the Toughbook. :nah:

Also, have you taken a good look at the mini-PCI card slot to see if there is any corrosion or damaged slot elements?

Oh, and BTW; from the Dull Community Support Forum: WM3A2200BG Wireless Problems

"Ok, Recently I had to reload my windows because of files missing or corrupted, I should have wrote down the correct message but didn't.

After formating and reloading I got the drivers I needed from my local computer service company and loaded them , Everything seems to work except wireless card, infact I can't even see where my computer evens see's the card. I read in another post about loading chipset first before loading all the drivers but I don't know what chipsets are for I am new to this but love doing it. I'm also not sure if the chipset thing evens applies to me?"

    BLASTED TOUGHBOOK!!!!

I went to update the bios and it needs a floppy drive, go figure when i got this unit it had a DVD drive installed :|

on the flip side I think it shat its [pants when i was calling it names and threatened to throw it out the window. (not that it would have done much rmoe then crack my sidewalk) a new option in the BIOS appeard enable or disable WIFI :|

boot up windows and sure nuff there it is. O_O

Im wiping it again and loading windows 7 (better touch support and a cleaner OS IMO)

anyone know if the 2100 card will support WPA2 or do i "get" to swap in this 2200 and see if it'll work and support WPA2?

If you have an acess to internet from other pc why not just download the driver not the whole utilty. For me those proset is useless and sometimes coz a problem with windows.

anyway, I'm lazy to go back and review. Did it recognize now?

Its not my unit, my old man bought it for my to fix, its like his midlife crysis but instead of buying a correvette or ninja he threw out my recomendation of a netbook and got this thing :|

after the 140$ he paid for it... the cost of a caddy an HDD and a new stick of ram (I wount touch a machine with under 512) hes over the cost of a new netbook and its slower... cant wait unitll he tried to put a thumbsitck into this wonky USB port... I've been using an ETC cord to get it "plugged in"
oh i also have to buy a power adaptor. (got a great deal on an IBM unit, new in box 16V 4.75amp)

and yes the WIFI is working now :D

Im not really a fan of either :p

netbook is too slow and a toughbook i think is fast enough does not exist :p that and would cost 10k :p

Ive been a hug fan of the precision line up... sturdy "enough" and very fast.

I would like a touch screen though :D

Glad you made it! Now! its time for you to think what else you can do to this unit. Panasonic has a lot of option on the mbo. that you can't find it on other pc out there. One of the member here qoute " Its more than a desktop" why Coz you can expand like having a tv tuner, GPS, WWAN, Bluetooth capable, fm tuner and etc. Not by using external port but internally/integrated. Thats the beauty of panasonic fully rugged toughbook. If you've plan of doing an expansion please don't use those cheap plug n play item. Your toughbook no longer a toughbook but a CRAP toughbook, Lol..

Sorry! I'm busy at the otherside of the forum. Giving some info for the member that probably those info may help somebody for at least a few buck instead what is normal.

We have a few grey hair members here with those
I remember a friend that had one, a brand new 1990
Sometimes it would take him several months to install an upgrade part to the bike
Frustrating ,by the time he has the new part installed, there was a better part on the market :(

Glad you got everything worked out. For the Dull card, was it like the Plus-S swap where you had to have the perfect angle or security features would be non existent?

How is the Dell card in the toughbook? I got one for like $3 shipped for my insperon 5100 and was extremely joyous til I installed it. Frisbee'd it not to long after.

so far its great... i didnt have the ab card in very long but the signal is the same on the local "B" networks

the BG card supports all the new WPA also so thats a big plus.

as long as you buy an INTEL made card and not the crappy dell made ones you should be okay.

despite mine having a dell PN its still an intel card.

The touch is a mouse/point input. Both of those mice(think i said it right) will accept the driver for touch but on my 29H the bottom one was the right one for XP. I have to swap hard drives to see if W7 was opposite or not.
