    hey everybody.
    It`s about a toughbook cf-29 mk2 model number is cf-29ETKCMCM
It`s been modified by a professional and now has edge and gps.
The software i run is windows xp sp3.

The problem began when I configured Dragon NaturallySpeaking. I entered my newly bought sony headphone and started the user config wizard. when this was complete (after 20 minutes) my laptop was freezing and even ctrl alt del was not working.
I used the power button to power off. When i turned my laptop back on it was reacting very slow, also the keyboard did not work anymore.
Then i made a reset (remove battery and adapter and hold power button for 10 seconds). But whit no success, i tried to enter the recovery cd and change the keyboard (rubberized & blacklit) but also no success.

Does anybody has any idea on how to solve this problem.

i have also uploaded a movie on youtube whit the boot of my laptop.

Probably the CMOS battery. Also try pulling the hard drive and booting to see if it still freezes. Also also try pulling the CMOS battery & booting.

I agree with Zero...change the cmos battery and if the harddrive led always on continously. Try swapping another harddrive.

It's by the hard drive bay. If you open the door, you can see it sandwiched between the mainboard and top cab. You can unplug it & plug it in without removing the bottom cab but you have to be VERY dextrous to completely change it out without removing the cab. Just unplugging it should give you an idea of whether it will fix your problem.

You may also try reinstalling the latest BIOS release! System timer failure, hmmmmmmm.... Make sure the date isn't registered as 12/12/1980.... Or 1/1/2020... I've had issues before where wild, accidental date changes wreak havoc with the BIOS.

    Just a thought.

And how can i reinstall the bios, is there a program to write to floppy?

Yes there is a floppy program that you run.

You need to create an account HERE then you can get all the drivers and any bios updates for your model. After you have downloaded the bios update then write it to a floppy with another computer and try to pop it in and start the notebook hopefully it can update still.

Download thte BIOS update and install it with a floppy drive. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong here) But even if it is the same BIOS revision it should still reinstall over itself, yes? I recall doing that to a CF-28 that was a little flaky and it worked on that one.

I think I was wrong on the system time. I doubt that would cause a BIOS fault. I was using the date/calendar feature on my CF-29 a few weeks ago and accidentally saved the date I was looking at. This set the internal clock back by a few months which screwed several things up.

unfortunately no succes. after removing the battery and putting it back in the laptop runs trough bios but is freezing on 80%.
I even tried to download a bios update but i cant make a disk (because it has to be done on a cf29-eXX)
so i unpacket the exe file and put that on a disk, but no result.
can maybe somebody make a disc and coppies the file to me (on rapidshare or something).
does somebody has any idea? Can it really be the motherboard or is it just a little chip or module?
    ciao

    i would like to add:
my keyboard is not working so i can not enter setup
I have tried 2 keyboards and one on the ps2 port but nothing.....

please can anybody tell me what this is? And you would be an angel if you tell me how to fix..

Well I tried to make a disc and then was gonna upload the files but after I make the disc it shows it is empty. The files are hidden and i cannot copy them off the disc.

Maybe it is just me and my floppy is messed up but i dont think so.

Where are you located maybe i can just mail you a bios update floppy.

Could maybe somebody make a floppy and send it to my home?
It is in the Netherlands but a floppy can go whit normal mail.
Of course i`m willing to pay the disk and shipment.
