Hey guys, i picked up this Toughbook on Ebay from a shady seller that had listed a MK3 1.4Ghz and eneded up sending me a MK2 1.3Ghz unit that is a bit rough...

Anyway he had installed XP on it but it seems to be missing some componets of the OS including networking and any means of connecting to the internet.
I am suspecting a pirate copy OS, so i sent the serial Key to microsoft in an email for them to check it as i cannot get it to connect to the net.

Which brings me to my main issue. It is a CF29EWPGZKM (verified in bios)which should be a MK2 if i am not mistaken, but i have tried numerous drivers MK1, 2, and 3 and they all say "this machine does NOT support" when i double click on the exe.
Does not matter what kind of driver, lan, mouse, system info, they all say the same thing..

Am i doing something wrong or is this an unusual unit?

First thing you need to do is make sure everything you want to use is enabled in the BIOS. You can access that by hitting F2 at the POST screen (where is says Panasonic real big)

If you BIOS is locked. You will need to PM me for further instructions.

Once you check this report back to us with what you find

I enabled everything in the bios and still same thing when i try to install the drivers.
Touch screen still not working either, but i suspect the driver is not installed.

Is it as simple as double clicking on the driver exe or is there more to it than that...

Open your Device Manager and let me know how many things are have the yellow exclaimation next to them and I'll look around for my mk2 driver folder and see if I can get it to you somehow

    Thats the best option
The specs for your model are

    Pentium M 1.3G LV (Centrino), 13.3Transmissive Touch XGA, 512MB,60GB,WLAN802.11b+g, WinXP,BacklitKBD

Copy everything from c/utilitys and or c/utilitys1 on a mk-2

I had a look at device manager and only thing thats yellow is "Network Controller"

Here is the link to download the newest drivers for your intel 2200bg wi-fi card

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/con...37&DwnldId=17751&strOSs=&OSFullName=&lang=eng

That will get your wi-fi working

Edit : Here is a download link to the other drivers that are in the c/utilitys folder,I omitted the wifi drivers only
The file requires winrar to unextract

You are exactly right, my mouse shows up as PS/2 compatible mouse with no yellow warning.

If by hotkeys you mean the alternate function of the "F" keys (by pressing [FN] they all seem to work.
    Like sound up/dwn backlight up/dwn battery level....etc

The only yellow questionmark i have is listed as "Other Devices" and if you click the little + sign it sais "Network Controller"

I checked under C:\utillities and there is no such folder unless it is hidden

All i get under C;\ is

    DELL,
    Program Files,
    WINDOWS,
    Documents and Settings,
    Temp

Im guessing this is a pirated DELL OS

i loaded the wifi driver and now the Wireless network card shows up in the device manager... Yay..

    Thats one down...lol

There is still something not right about this operating system though as it seems to be missing allot of components. like there is no wireless connection manager showing me available networks.. The outlook express folder is empty, internet explorer is empty etc etc..

Yes i do have the COA

And in fact i have another copy of XP PRO that i was going to install and then inject the licence key from the COA to make everything legit, but im having a dispute with the seller as this was suppoded to be a MK3 and he sent me a MK2, also it was supposed to be in "Good condition" and there are several covers/doors missing and the screen is very scratched, which might just be the protector, i have not taken it off to have a look.

Waiting to see if he is going to send me a MK3 as advertised..

That sounds like a bad ebay deal to me

Windows should have a built-in connection manager..Thats what I use

Shoot me a PM when you have PM privlidges, your almost there as you need 15 posts
I would like to check out the listing myself..you don't need to post it here
If you end up keeping the mk-2 I have a proper drivers disk I can send out to you

We have a couple of active forum members here that are close to you

Yes definitely a shady ebay seller, the pictures in the listing are not the same as the unit i received either and there was no mention that the pictures were generic in nature.

If i can get the touch screen working and the scratching on the screen is only on the screen protector then i might considder keeping it..
It has the rubberized back lit keyboard which im not really keen on but it looks very new so maybe i will get used to it..
Or maybe someone will want to trade for a backlit chicklet keyboard..

Well I looked at the listing ,and you were correct on the pictures , the seller had four different 29's for sale and he just took just one picture
I have seen this before in listings, and you the buyer need to be cautious about this ,sometimes going as far as requesting additional pics if you are not too sure

One of the four cf-29 buyers has given the seller his first negitive

The seller has misrepresented the model as is was stated in the listing it was a 1.4 processer and has failed to mention missing covers

7 day money back, buyer pays return shipping

Try to get some money refunded, as you will have to potentialy loose out the duties and return shipping or you will have a paperwork hassle with canada customs and you will notice very little difference on the processer speed increase, and the seller will probably will not have any more

If you leave a negitive he will look even worse as it will drop him to below 98% positive feedback

If you need help locally with it ,Teo has posted that he is willing to take a look, he lives in Richmond

Well i should hear back today from Microsoft regarding the OS.
If it turns out to be pirated he may be knee deep in issues as neither Ebay, Paypal nor Microsoft looks kindly on Fraud for profit.

getting the screen protector off can be a booger sometimes but once you can get ahold of one of the corners, continue to pull if off without stopping (but don't yank it off like a table cloth).

To install follow the guide on this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=400661

Yeah... Use your fingernail... It will take time but you'll get it... You DO NOT want to poke a hole in the touchscreen... Or scratch it.

There are links that will tell you how to take a shower with your Toughbook! ;)

Got the 29 working properly, turns out it was the pirated OS that was giving me trouble.
Did a fresh install of xp pro with the coa serial key and now everything is golden.

    Thanks for the help..
