Hi all
i just bought a cf-30 with windows xp. the laptop does not have the model number sticker on the bottom so i can only identify it as having windows xp, the non touch screen and built in wifi.
the hard drive is 320 gig but is not original.
the problem is that the battery recalibration software is not installed and when i downloaded all the versions of it from panasonic they give an error message that this is not the right machine when i try to execute them.
any ideas on what i can do to install this software?
thanks
Pete

Boot it up and click F2... Read off the model number from there. It is more reliable than any sticker on the bottom...
Then go HERE to get the needed drivers. They will go by CF-30C/D or CF-30F/G... Go from there...
Let us know what you need... That's one reason we are here! -
Hi toughbook
i am confused. pressing F2 brings up the pheonix bios program. I do not see anything that looks like the model number. i.e. CF-30c etc. where should i be looking in the bios.
Thanks

Pete... Yes... You go into the BIOS and it should be on the first page you boot into! It will have the complete model number and serial number... Size of hard drive, amount of installed RAM, Optical drive, etc.... If it is not in there... You have larger issues that battery recalibration...

OK then we are going for the BIGGER PROBLEMS situation.
the front page of the bios gives the following
cpu Intel L2400 1.66 ghz
speed 1.66 GHZ
bios V1.00L06
embedded controller V0.3L068
system memory 2.048
HD 320 GB
Optical Drive DVD Drive
Operating time 120 hrs
but no model number.

Thank you Tomcat57
the file i have from panasonic is brecal_30_1_d060084.exe
when i run it from the command prompt or in windows it returns an error message "this machine does not support"
i get the same message from all the battery recalibration exe files from panasonic. any idea what the problem is?
Thanks

You bought this on Ebay and it had an altered serial number in both the bottom sticker and in the BIOS? If it were me I would be asking some questions about that. Maybe let the seller know it is against Ebay policy and against the law to sell equipment with altered serial numbers.

Its very strange
That sofware will even start to run on my cf-19
The bios revision# looks low too
I don't really know whats up on this

You could try unpacking the file with WinRAR and creating a folder on C:\Util2\Drivers\Brecal and install the unpacked drivers there... They run the program. It should run with no problems. You may have to do this with all drivers.
I think that when you try to install these drivers... It is trying to address the model number in the BIOS to make sure you have the correct one. Since nothing is there.... It refuses to load.... So make it!
But FWIW... I'm with Tough-to-go.... I'd definitely say something to the seller. You may guilt him/her into a partial refund for your time and trouble. As far as I know... You'd have to send that into Heartland Services to get that squared away... At $250+ -
He would of been able to run the .exe file
I have the vista bios in my mk-1 so I can't tell what should be the right bios version # for his xp instalation
That revision looks wrong, and as others have noticed it's not normal for the bios not to show both the model and serial number

Sounds to me like a BIOS reFLASH is in order...
Yuck.
*Says a prayer for Pete*

Or you could just fling a cow at it... -
All the new Toughbooks cf-19/cf-30 etc flash the bios from within windows

Sorry for the long comm lag. it was a long work day.
Toughbook and Tomcat57 you are both Gentlemen and Toughbook Scholars. the unpacked driver installed as Toughbook recommended produced a setup.exe file that successfully installed the battery recalibration software in the programs menu in a folder named Panasonic exactly as it was supposed to do. my problem is solved.
since my toughbook was purchased from a ebayer with a high favorable rating and was in the condition he stated in the ad i am satisified with the purchase and believe it has a clear title.
Thanks everyone for your helpful comments.
Sincerely

You remember in the Bible, those guys wandering the desert for 40 years? They were REALLY looking for a .bin file for a Gateway...
