Have a friend with a CF-30 that is not recognizing the DVD drive. Well, sees it and the drive spins up, but it shows a driver error in the device manager. Anyone have a similar problem that they were able to figure out the driver issue? I tried uninstalling the drive from the device manager, but when I restarted, it didn't go through the normal hardware discovery, just loaded the drive in the device manager and showed the failed icon due to no driver. Appreciate any help here...

    Thanks,

This sounds too simple but it has helped me... Check the contacts... All it takes is one speck of dirt on the wrong contact and it won't see it.

Also I am assuming we are dealing with a stock drive here? Not a modded DVD-into-the CD-case type thing?

Yeah - if it's showing an error in Device Mgr, it's a hardware fault, not drivers. Try taking the cover off the drive caddy; you may find that the ATAPI connector at the back of the drive itself has come loose/partially unplugged. Also, shake it gently and listen for rattly bits...
