Does anyone know if some cf-51s need to see only 512GB RAM in slot1 (rather than 1GB card)?

I have a new cf-51 that came with no memory. Adding 1GB card (200p PC2700 DDR SDRAM SODIMM) the power light comes on, fan starts, but then the box shuts down -- just like it does with no memory at all.

    Any ideas are welcome

    Thanks in advance

Sounds like the ram is not suported,Probably 512 will be the largest ram suported, That depends on the series Whats your model # cf-51xxxxxx/processer speed?

    thanks for the reply(ies)

    Model number story:
My box is a pre-production model with a non-supported number. YFZZFZM (Since invariably people ask about this, the short story is: I was told the Y was for gov't issue, the last Z for pre-production, last M for Taiwan -- meaning the box (without process or memory, etc) was shipped from Taiwan. Panasonic has not yet been able to tell the destination of the box except to say it was Not shipped to North America or Australia. (The box was bought thru ebay.) Hence it is hard to tell what goes where in it.

So not much to go on, yes?

Despite all that, Panasonic offered a few details, like the PentiumM 725 processor that accompanied the box is the right processor. This says to me that the box is one of the original cf-51s, yes?

The logic would be that the older cf-51 boxes had 1.5GB RAM max.

So even tho Panasonic offered the RAM max was 2.0, I am hoping that is incorrect, that I need to have a 512GB card in slot1 (I have little idea of motherboard/RAM, processor/motherboard communication, obviously -- just doing this to rule out the box turning off being a RAM problem, yes? tee-hee only thing it will hurt is my pocketbook a bit, and a lot of time and gas :p

I will test the 512MB card as soon as possible and let anyone interested know the results....if anyone has any other info/input, will keep an eye out here.

Again, thanks for support/info/any new news...or if someone has a better idea, would be glad to here...thanks in advance

Are you putting in the wrong memory?
    1 gb should work
    I have had 2 51s both had 512 in slot1
I added 512 extra in slot 2 for one of them to make 1 gb
I never tryed a 1 gb thought as 1 gb total was fine for me in xp
    Try different combinations
    Switch the ram around
Try the ram in the other slot,
By itself if you have a stock 512 chip in 1 slot

Yes, have been switching the cards around.

I tested the 1GB card in another machine and it is fine.

Using a 512MB card the box will still not boot up. :p

Note: Panasonic tech today (7/28) says there would be a different factory recognizable Model Number on it unless something weren't wrong with the motherboard or if it was custom made -- which someone says it was, and in that case, they have no idea what kind of RAM it takes, or anything else and can't (won't?/don't know how to?) find out anything further...sigh. All info on the ebay buy is gone bye-bye too...a hard drive casualty. grrr.

I do have a question related to same box -- I will mention here, then, if no one replies I will post in new thread, yes?

is there some way to tell which CPU goes in a box other than by model number?

Are the motherboard connections the same for all the different processors (725, 740, 753, 760, Centrino)?

(The seller included a 725 (1.6Gh) CPU which I put it but perhaps this box takes a different CPU.)..again, is there some way to tell which CPU other than model number?

thanks in advance for any info

    cheers
