Hi guys, a quick question, whats the fair market value for a toughbook cf-52slgbd1m? A local guy whom I deal with regularly is offering to sell one to me for 750, is that a good deal? Don't know toughbook prices, (well I do know their online retail value but of course online retailers can ask whatever they want but it doesn't mean people will buy it at that price) since I usually deal in more mainstream laptops. Thanks.

If it is a new toughbook that seems like a very good price to me. I don't know what others have to say but I'd love to have one at that price.

For new ones, yes, but I wonder how many people actually buys that stuff as my main concern is when I get rid of it no one would buy it. As a general rule for computers, the more expensive it is, the smaller the potential buyer base becomes.

Ahh, you are new to Toughbooks..They are a disease. You will never get rid of it unless it is to buy more of them.

those specs are correct, with on exception. The previous owner changed the HDD to a 480 ssd. So long as I can buy it, use it and later get ride of it without losing a boat load of money, I'll be happy.

The 480 ssd adds quite a bit of value to it.

My advice to you is don't buy it , find a cheaper one around $300-$500 . That way when you go to sell it you will not lose as much.
The CF-52 will not be sold much longer and will be fully replaced my the CF-53 what I have read so far. So will that have any affect on prices of used CF-52's

Hell I'd pay $800 for your CF-53 right now. Do you want PayPal or cashier's check?

Oh well, bought it for fun along with a corsair force 3 gs 480gb ssd for a total of 900, if all else fails I think I can sell it on ebay for 1300 or so.

I have to disagree with you on a few fronts. This model is still current and most of the cheaper CF-52s are much lower spec'd. It can take up to 16GB of RAM with is more than the CF-53 and has a higher screen resolution. I'm glad he got it because I have a CF-53 and there are some things I don't like about it that I like in the CF-52.

kingstu...I do agree with you. I still kept my CF-52 after getting a CF-53 because I like the size of the screen for one thing. idofgrahf...you will love your new CF-52 and that was a very good price you paid. The only reason I said what I said was " will you lose any money on the deal"...too hard to say when it comes to laptops .
What I would like to know is how long do you get out of a battery. My CF-52MK1 and MK2 gets about 4 hours on a charge...my CF-53 gets a good 6 hours

Blair blair blair! The 53 is most certainly NOT replacing the 52 man!!! The High end 52's are rolling strong and hard for now!! They both have advantages and disadvantages!

Guys! I must re-iterate to everyone on the forums here as people seem to have the idea that the 52's are going away soon! That is NOT true!

The 52's will be used in "high end" situations which require 1920x1200 screens and dedicated video cards - the 53's cannot do that! They don't even offer it!

The touchscreen is what the 53's have going for them in the 14" widescreen 720p platform.

The newest 52's that are out now have USB 3.0 on them too!

I will repeat: The 52's are here to stay for at least 1 more year!!! They JUST released a new mark on these too!

Source: Panasonic web meeting I have almost every Thursday!

Well then Rob Panasonic needs to get this out on the web because before I bought my CF-53 I did a lot of checking of reviews on the net to see how it was and they were all saying at the time that the 53 was replacing the 52. So if Panasonic sends them 53's to review then they should tell them that it's NOT replacing the 52 like many other toughbooks have.
    example
    19 replaced 18
    28 replaced 27
    29 replaced 28
    30 replaced 29
    31 replaced 30
    51 replaced 50
    52 replaced 51

Well that said I love my 53 because it is a little smaller and the 6 hour+ battery life is great :) BUT I also love my 52 because it has a great screen.

Blair, I have noted this. I have a meeting with the head hanchos at Panasonic this upcoming Thursday. I will ask them what's going on.

I see your logic too, don't get me wrong. Maybe EVENTUALLY they'll replace the 52 with the 53, but not ANY TIME soon!

I'd be a little surprised if Panasonic didn't keep some kind of offering with the 15.4" screen, wouldn't you Rob?

Maybe since they combined the 74 and 51 series and came out with the 52 maybe they feel they want another smaller one like the 74, but wanted to go widescreen on it, the 53 would fit that well.

I guess Panasonic marketers can't add...
