I was curious to see if it was a possibility to put gps on a cf-73 and if so how much of a pain in the butt it would be

    It's a mk1 i think

Anyway but internal and you should be fine. Not much room on the inside and they never had it OEM (if I remember correctly). USB, PCMCIA or Bluetooth, take your pick.

A usb type gps can be mounted inside but I can't find a usb gps with a provision for an external antena.

Can an internal antennae like used on the 29 work? cuz there is plenty of space for it below the touchpad, although I don't know if the touchpad and a person constantly being over that position interfere with the signal

U can unsoldering the antenna from the USB-GPS and use an RG-154 wire to reach the new position of the antenna. Easy to install is a antenna from any IBM or Dell or so notebook, which has an Erricson F3507g or DELL 5530 card inside.
BTW, I use the same card in my CF-19. :) But it will only work in Linux.
