Hi,
the on off switch on my cf-y5 is acting funny. When I boot, even if the switch is on, after the OS loads i must turn the switch off and then back on for it to detect any networks. I'm having the same problem in both Windows in Linux. In linux I can see that the machine is reporting that the switch is off even though it is set to on. Has anybody else had any trouble with this?

You may have dirty contacts. Radio Shack (Now called simply "The Shack" in an effort to recruit younger dweebs) has contact cleaner. You could try spraying a SMALL jet of the contact cleaner into the switch. I am not familiar with your model but the rugged models give you fairly easy access to the switch itself by removing a screw or two. Dirt and other crud can get behind the switch and prohibit contact.
Just a thought. -
thanks for the advice, I'll clean the damn thing in the next week or so.
It seems that every reboot or power cycle makes the damn switch turn off even though its physically on. I'll try cleaning it but it doesn't make sense to me. If it is just dirty or warn, it's only gonna get more so after countless switching. -
I'm really lazy about opening that damn thing up. I'm looking at figuring out a software override in linux...
