cf-18DDAZAMM With OEM GPS.
Ok, so let me start by saying I will try to follow ALL instruction to a "T". I appreciate your time and wisdom, and will follow your directions to a fix. Though I ask, can you please provide specfic instructions? I have researched and read threads on this fix, but none seam to solve the problem, and the ones that sound like they fix it, I dont understand. ...sorry i'm new to this. But THANKS for the help.
To date I have done a clean install of XP. I did not use tablet version and had to manually install all the drivers (from panasonic). I have gotten everything working. I followed the instructions, and did "experiements" to get it working where I didn't understand the instructions. I got all the drivers from: Toughbook Computer Support - Search Downloads The issues I have now are If I enable GPS in bios the mouse jumps around, and the rotation/brightness/ect buttons dont work on the front of the computer. I installed all the drivers by extracting them and running the setup file. I did not go thru device manager and direct to the folder with the driver because DM would only go folder deep. I could not get to the file level. The drivers that did not have a setup file, or a file that you double click to run, I didn't load because I dont know how. Everything else seams to be working, just not the GPS and Hotkeys.
I read this thread;
http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/441147-cf18-gps-mouse-problem.html
And as far as I can tell you download the GPS driver. I've done this. But I dont know what the next step is. I think it may be explained, but not in terms I understand. After I extract the file I get 2 files. I cant open either of the files: enableenum and skipenum with anything other than note pad. And when I open it with notepad, it doesnt install and I dont know what to do with it.
I have NO idea about how to get the Hotkeys to work.
Please direct me thru the processes to get these to function correctly.
THANK YOU!!

Theres a topic on this somewhere in this forum.
The best is to buy the recovery cds then everything works
the first time and it only takes like 10-15 minutes as oposed
to several days. -
I have tried to get the proper CDs. One of the other forum members tried to help me track down the CDs with no luck. If you have a working set of mk2 digitizer cds, i would love to try them! -

Just grab any CF-18 recovery set from ebay or wherever you can get them and
follow this info posted by one of our members. Problem solved.

To get rid of the "crazymouse" you need to update the mouse driver in Device Manager to the mouse driver for your 18. Then add the GPS registry value to the registry. Do all of the above with the GPS disabled in BIOS when done turn GPS back on and the mouse no longer runs around your screen. -
Read the one by tbtech. start,my computer, local disk, (C) util gps doubleclick skipenum
Do this with GPS disabled in bios then re-boot and re-enable.
TEST site:forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic - Google Search -
There are 3 different mounses in the device manager. Which one do I use/update?
Also please provide instructions on hot to "add the GPS registry value to the registry" ...I do not know how to do this like you mentioned. Can you expand on this with instructions? -
Post a picture of what you are looking at in control panel with the mouse portion expanded please. I'll get my CF-18 and tell you what should be there.
Belay that mine just shows touch/pad touchscreen. -
No necessarily true
I was able to load cf18 mk2 recovery disks on my mk2 using mk2 discs using the crack ,for some reason the stock disks did not work originally as I have a strange model #
We just tried to load mk4 digitizer disks on a mk5 digitizer using the crack ,the hardware between mk4 and mk5 is very close ,and it was a fail part way through
For many you will be stuck with loading a generic version of xp and loading the drivers separately
For driver order

I now have all the Toughbook images for all models I sell both standaard HD's and tweaked XP OS's for SSD's on my server and install via lan. This solves all the probs and lets me install in 10 min or so. -
I have done this. And for what I understand that I am supposed to:
open Device Manager> click on the yellow "?" for the second "unknown device"> click on driver tab> update driver> Install Wizard opens, select from a specfic location> next> select search for the best driver in this location> check include in this search> Browse to find the file where the downloaded driver is> next> ....and it is supposed to install, right?
Well, the problem is that I cant get to the driver (and I wouldn't know exactly what file to use since there is no .exe file). It wont browse down to the file leve, only the folder level. I also am unable to find specfic instructions (like I listed above) for the process.
Can anyone tell me the process and exactly how to do this? ...step by step? ...with out suggesting a search. As I mentioned, I have done many searches and read MANY posts. But for some reason I am missing something.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!
The GPS issue is another issue... -
The one with the arrow by it is a USB mouse.Attached Files:

I dont know what to do with this thing? I really wish I could find the information need to get it working. I kinda feel like a new driver, surrounded by drivers, but no one will show me how to drive... -
\
you need the PS/2 mouse for the touchpad and the wacom for the digitizer. All the yellow marks the drivers SHOULD be in UTIL or UTIL2.
Oh well,
Right click on any mouse. Click properties. There are your drivers to look at.
Pulls soap box over with scraping sound. If you use factory restore disks rather than shopping all over the ranch for drivers you will be amazed. Slides soap box back under the bench.
G'luck.
Jeff....drivers are in C:/Util or Util2 on all my machines. [start][my computer][c: hard disk] top of my head I'm on Linux. Sorry this is all garbled I have to leave and don't have time to be coherent. -
This is the way you can install the two patch file for Gps. Double click the file(assuming you already extrcted) and it will display a new window asking you, bla..bla "do you wanna continue" click yes. same on the other file.
for touchpad: On device manager under mice, expand; then point the mouse into PS/2 mouse....then right click, Update driver, it will dispaly another window, choose "not this time" it will dispaly again anther window, choose "install on an specific location" then point it to the folder, driver, mouse, then follow instruction. It it still no worky for you. Choose "don't search i will install specific driver" then "have a disk, then again to a folder where you extracted the mouse or specific file.

THANK YOU! I will try these fixes.
One more quesiton about the gps... where is it in device manager? -
Ummmm where are your com ports? Mine has 3 Com and a bunch of BT ports for Toshiba BT.
I would look for the GPS on a com port. Usually Com 3.
Anyone know what's happening here?
Please open System Devices send a screenshot and let me compare that to my CF-18.
Did you find the UTIL folder? [my computer] [local disk (C]You should see Docs and Settings, Program Files, Windows and Util.
Jeff -
You have 2 unknown devices just like you are supposed to have with a clean install ,follow closely my guide to resolve those first
GPS is never labeled as such in device manager it is listed under com ports
Since nothing is listed under com ports your gps is currently disabled -
Should there not be at least one com port? -
Not on the digitizer cf-18 as it's missing the 9 pin serial port(Com1) that is normaly on the back of Toughbooks
Com's can also show up for com port B (the docking station com port) and sometimes the dial up modem, and if equipped a cellular WWAN can use 2 to 3 com ports depending if it's equipped with a gps -
Thanks Alex. That is what I was looking for. I remembered the serial port relationship with Com 1.
And explains my three com ports.
Thanks again.
Jeff.........thinking..........did we set bios to defaults here? I'll go back and look. -
...sorry to sound stupid, but THANK YOU for telling me where the damn utilities folder is!
I will take a pic and post it shortly... -
...wait. I went;
my computer> c drive> docs and settings> ***but there is no program files folder. Only all users, and ryan. Neither of those folders has a >windows, or >utilities???
Instead of above I also see:
my computer> c drive> program files> but still no windows or utilities?
I even did a search for utilities and nothing came up?
...feeling kinda lost now... -

What am I missing to not see this folder? did I do the XP install wrong or something? I have wiped about 6 computer in my life, and no issues like this -
toughasnails Toughbook Moderator Moderator
Let me guess ..... you did not use the Panasonic Restore Disk when you did the install did u
Ok , I see you did not have the restore disk but that util folder should be there once you started to download the drivers because that is where they go......at least that's where mine went. I just tried it on my MK4. -
If all else fails do a search for Util*.
If it is not in the root directory of C then the map doesn't work. Follows is computer code.
My sense of humor again.
One more time:[Start][My Computer] double click the thing in the pane that looks like a hard drive labeled Local Disk C: You should see Windows,Util,Program Files and Documents and Settings. That's one step back from Blair's image above.
OR:
[Start]
[Run]
cmd [Enter]
dir C:\ -
-
...and I would really like to say thanks to you 2 for helping me!!
-
Note
The folder is caller util when the restore disks are used
When you download and install drivers from Panasonic downloads the folder is called util 2 -
...folder util2 is shown in the pic above. i can open it, but the 2 gps drivers wont install
-
I've done GPS registry patch(model specific)and skipenum at least four times on CF-29s. -
-
If it is an .exe file, why do I get the error when I open it? It doesn't look like a .exe file. and its only 1kb in size???
-
I have a feeling that all of the drivers that you downloaded are not yet extracted, do you?
ohlip -
I used winrar to extract the drivers from the gps file that I downloaded from panasonic. What that not the right thing to do?
-
Thanks for the help!!! -
if you want. Some good stuff there.
I agree with Teo (ohlip).
I'm setting up a wireless printer on the frau's TB. I'll come back and re-read this whole thing after a while. -
edit: if error dispaly. There is another way. Copy the file skip.. and enab..m and then paste those two file into system32.
Edit again; if its all fail try this solution for jumping mouse written by one of our member Zippyman: http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/328808-toughbook-gps-jumping-mouse-fix.html
ohlip -
I only paste them into system32? I dont need to open them or anything? What about their size, are they supposed to be that small? -
Yup! it a very samall size program. Sometime this work on me when I can't find the gps patch from other model. You can aslo try the second one if its still no changes at all.
Btw, I am lazy to go back again and review all the posted review. May I know what model do you have? I mean complete model, maybe I have the right patch file on my file.
ohlip -
The GPS is disabled in the bios
When you have the patch file in place, you are safe to enable it (without the crazy mouse issue) -
Looks like this somewhat.
Attached Files:
-
-
So I followed these instructions:
Next follow these Steps:
Right click My Computer
Select Properties
Select Advanced Tab
Select Settings in Startup and Recovery
Select Edit
Add /NoSerialMouse (this is case sensitive) to the line that looks like:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\XP="Windows XP" /fastdetect
so that it now reads:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\XP="Windows XP" /fastdetect/NoSerialMouse
File - Save
Exit
Reboot
Boot into bios and re-enable the GPS and save and exit.
And the mouse seams to be fine. But I dont see the GPS in the device manager? is it supposed to show up there? Also, another dumb question, but where do I see the "comm" ports in device manager? I only see comm 2 in the expanded list of Human Interface Devices.
...How do I tell if the GPS is working? Isn't there some free program that tracks gps?
>>>JUST DID A REBOOT AND THE MOUSE JUMPS ALL OVER AGAIN. THIS DID NOT FIX IT>>> What do I do now? -
-
Also just as a reminder... I was unable to open and install the files skipenum and enableenum. I posted pics of the error that I got. Dont I need to install these for the GPS to work?

Someone should know, but my guess is the files were not extracted.

UPDATE:
So I kept getting an error when trying to install the GPS drivers. I still cant see the comm ports in device manager (i dont think i'm looking in the right spot) or the GPS hardware. So, I thought what the hell, I will see if its there anyway? I downloaded WinFast and did the "NoSerialMouse" edit then rebooted. Then rebooted after enabling GPS in the Bios. Interesting that the mouse was not jumping all around! Seams to have worked! I then opened Winfast and it FOUND THE GPS... Comm 4 apparently??? So it was tracking satalites and the mouse was not jumping all around!!!
I think that means the GPS is working properly, correct? But cam someone tell me where to see it in device manager?
...I still need help with the hot keys if someone can tell me what to do there?? I did get the "hotkey driver" to finally update into the 2nd unknown decive in device manager. This makes the brightness buttons function. I still dont have any of the other hotkeys functioning.
Thanks again to all that have helped!!
