Are there any waterproof backlit rubberised kbd's available for CF18's (and 19's presumably) like the ones that fit CF28's?

Also, I am trying to source more RAM for my mk-2 cf18. I have found 1 gb ddr2 modules but they don't fit (the little slot in the fibreglass PCB is in the wrong place). I'm looking at 512 MB modules from this Ebay listing as possibly suitable:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/512MB-for-Panas...QQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item120410065745

Anyone able to confirm that these will fit? I have seen talk of 1 gb modules that will fit in a mk-2 cf18... hmmm

I have successfully installed a new 160 gb drive and got Windows Xp Pro on the machine to replace the Xp tablet edition installed on the 40 gb drive supplied with the system... Gasp the 'elderliness' of Xp on the restore disks resulted in about a day's worth of pulling down patches, restarting, pulling down more patches, restarting.... including service pack 2 and 3.

    Craig.

    You need for compatability
    ddr1 pc2700 200 pin ram
That listing had pc2100, I would not use that in your mk-2 use pc2700

I missed out on a rubber KB for an 18/19 the other day. It was on one 18 listed for parts and I could have bought it for $275-300. I wanted the KB but did not need the unit as it was a 900Mhz and I already have one.

Would be good to automate the process, but being Windows would you want to trust it that much? I think not!

I noticed a CF19 rubber backlit kbd on ebay yesterday for about US$220. That's rather steep... But will it fit an 18 as well as a 19, or just a 19? I guess the kbd's of this type for the 18's and 19's are far less common than the same thing for the 28's, etc.

    Craig,
I've got one if you want it. They are VERY hard to type on.

Given that people don't recommend the rubberised kbd's for CF18's I might stick with the standard one for now.

As for RAM I obtained a 1 GB Kingston PC2700 DDR-1 333 Mhz SODIMM which fits into the CF18, but Windows is crashing (haven't been quick enough to watch and see the error yet) when I try to run the system with the 1 GB module installed.

The BIOS correctly reports that the machine has 1280 MB RAM fitted. The Kingston part code is KVR333S0/1GR. The 'VR' is the code for Kingston's 'Value-Ram' series of laptop memory modules and the module was new in original retail packaging.

Another quirky thing with the machine... When the system puts itself to sleep (based on the power settings), it restarts ok later on but the screen is blank for an inordinantly long time and I've needed to ctl-alt-del to get the Windows Task Manager to come up with makes the display turn on. I don't know if that's a quirk specific to the way the hardware and software talk to each other in the CF18's, or something wrong in one of the Panasonic-specific drivers.

You obtained a bad memory module, send it back and ask for another one or ask for a refund.

Will see what the seller has to say. In the meantime I might grab a 512 MB equivalent and give that a go.

I remember changing out rubber keyboards after they started to crack at the spacebars, I think we usually swapped it to a chicklet style IIRC. I dont think I would spend any real money on one myself.
