The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    can you boot from a usb tryingto use live linux off a usb can it be done. i know you all will know.

    I was unable to boot from a usb hard drive. I searched for some time and was told that the operating system loads the usb drivers while it loads so you have to boot from another device.

    John, I used Live Ubuntu loaded from a USB CDD, to access a HDD with corrupted MBR.

    Look into your BIOS and set USB CDD as the first bootup device. That's all I can say since I'm still a 'nux noob'.
