I will put the back off of the Mk1 and one of the Mk2 and Mk3's I have at the house to check when I get home from work. (late on the 19th) I know the Mk1 motherboard has a extra wire beside where the speaker plugged in to where the audio board is on the bottom next to the daughterboard for WWAN, BT and GPS. The Mk2 to Mk5 doesn't have that. I am 100% sure you can swap between Mk4 and Mk5, Mk2 and Mk3, but not sure on the Mk1. The only thing I think that needs to be doubled checked for sure is the heatsink. Do you have the motherboard to swap already? If not look for a Mk3 with 512 Mb on the motherboard. Early Mk3 and all Mk2 have 256 MB on the motherboard. This will give you max ram of 1.5 not 1.25 GB.

No i have not already the new mobo neither the toughbook at all, i was wondering if i can pick up a cheap cf18 900Mhz and turn it up to a 1.2Ghz one, that's all.

And just anoter question, a little bit OT, have you guys ever taken something from china ? I mean, something of big... like a toughbook for istance... because i ordered soe minor parts time ago, and all went right, the parts arrived after about a month, but never bought soething big and heavy, do you think that there will be customs tax on it ? (i live in Italy).

I dont know about customs tax in Italy, but it guess its the same as in Holland. If your order things inside Europe, there arent any custom tax. But China is outside Europe. In Holland I have to pay custom taxes if its a big parcel. Mostly chinese companys like PCHub.com (tip: they have lots of laptop parts and they are cheap), put GIFT/present on the packet. In Holland you dont have to pay custom tax if its small and a gift.

Sometimes you get a parcel and the customs still have included something that you have to pay them.

If you are not completely sure, i think its wise for you to read the Italian rules concernin Custom tax in Italy. They sure have their own Italian website for this.

A 1.2Ghz CF-18 would be a Mk4 or Mk5. The motherboard has the same basic shape, but I think the heat sink is a little different. Not sure. They also added a SD card reader to it. It uses DDR2 ram also, not DDR like the Mk1,2, and 3. If you have a working Mk1 you can pull your battery and caddy into the Mk4 or 5. The chipset is different so you will have to reload windows. I have had no problems swapping between a Mk1,2 or 3 though with windows.

No! You can't unless you've prefer for dremmeling, tig welding and etc. The control button is at opposite site as well as the power switch. They have diferrent front panel layout.

Ok, thank you, i was just wondering...
I'm very undecided, i have the opportunity to catch a cf18 near my home for about 300€ (about 400USD) and about for the same price, a cf19 but from a foreign land and i'm very uncertain about the shipment (that is insurred, but you know how these things go)...
What would you do in my place ?

I am back at home. What pictures do you want?

If I could make sure on shipping or you know you can trust the shipper I would go with the 19. I have worked my way up to the 19 Mk2 and like it alot. Leap head the CF-18 in CPU power.
