I have a CF29 which i use for car tuning , it works ok in the shop in a dark enviroment but is useless in daylight as I cant see the screen.
For those that have a CF19 is the screen readable in daylight and do they have a parallel port at the rear as the software I use requires a dongle to be inserted.

Welcome to the Panasonic Toughbook Forum
Sorry but it does not have one. Sounds like you are having problems with your 29. I can see mine no problem at all out side. -
Thanks for that , I only just bought the CF29 as all my old laptops had died from use in cars and saw it had a parrallel port on the ebay add for it.
Was very dissapointed when I discovered it ws unreadable in daylight.
Do the screens on these get slowly dimmer over time and if so are they replacable ? -

My 29 MK5 is very bright , maybe you have your backlight going on you.

Yes they are replaceable. Please give us the full model number..

Some older model can have a near burned out lamp inside, you can simply replace tha lamp, my older cf29 was unserviceable outside, my actual cf19 is strongly better (it's a mk1, if you get a mk5 you will be fully satisfied, but thay have not parallel ports at all).
So i will go for a spare parts, take a look on ebay for a new ccfl lamp, keep in mind that if you get an lcd panel on ebay it can be used as yours, so take a NEW lamp, thay are classified by lenght and diameter sizes, the more the diameter the more the current the more the light, but you can't install what you want, go for your exact replace. -
both my CF-19's are super bright and actually about the best I have ever had for outdoor work. I am guessing bad screen or the brightness control is not working

I'll bet some enterprising person could swap a cf30 screen with dual tubes in a cf29. You would need the cf30 inverter. Or just the cf30 tubes in the cf29 lcd...
cf19-parallel port ?
