Got a 1 ghz CF28 (CF-28STJGZKM) recently and from another source acquired a bunch of CF28 parts which included a yellow-tab battery (unknown condition).

I've set up the machine with the untested battery to run the battery refresh utility overnight and after about 12 hrs the initial charge cycle hasn't completed and the CF28's battery LED is flashing red.

That would tend to indicate that either the battery is cactus or the charging circuit of the CF28 itself is dud. I've quit out of the battery refresh utility and hard-cycled the power (unplugging and re-connecting the AC adaptor cable) and now the battery LED is orange to indicate it's trying to charge so I'll leave it for a few hours to see what that does.

I've got a couple of other CF28 batteries around here somewhere to try out...

    Craig.

Bad battery... You can try to cycle it... But if it flashed red once... It's bad.

Craig, the same thing happened to me about a week ago with one of my 28s. I was under the impression that all the batteries I had were done for. 1 of them I was messing with showed up red then after a couple of restarts during installions and updates it turned orange. so I hard cycled it a few times and now it holds about a 1 hour charge. not perfect but it gets the job done. I might go through and try to cycle some of the others I have just to see if I can get any halfway decent batteries. Good Luck

hi: I am a CF-28 newbie and I would be grateful if somebody could describe how to activate the "battery refresh" utility. My existing battery will last about an hour or so, depending on hard drive usage.

I will be using this amazingly robust machine on a sail boat and I would also be grateful if somebody could point me in the direction of a DC adapter that will work for this machine.

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the forum!

You need to start to boot it up... Then click on F2 to enter the BIOS... Arrow to the right all the way until you get to the "Save & Exit" area.... It should be on the bottom of the list. Click it and sit back and watch.... For hours...

The Lind Panasonic ToughBook Auto Car Adapter part number PA1540-201 is a dc/dc adapter that I recomend for your cf-28

Do a search on ebay , they are about $90 when new $20 to $40 used
