According to the Panasonic Configurator your laptop has a max RAM of 512... 256 hardwired and another stick of 256 for 512 max. There have been some who have been able to get 768mb to work. Others have said that only certain types will allow this.

You may only be able to go to 512mb. If you want real speed... Add a 7200rpm hard drive. That will make it fly!

I have seen 768 MB 28s on ebay, but have not yet been able to find out the specific part number of memory module that makes this happen.

I can say from personal experience with 256MB modules, the CF28s are pretty picky as to what they'll accept. I tried a few that worked fine on other non-Panasonic notebooks, but would come up as 128 or nothing at all on my 28. I fnally gave up and got the specific module listed on the Kingston site.

I tired on one of mine. It even registered in the BIOS... But I started getting the BSOD... I had to take it out. I haven't tried it on any others yet.

Sounds like it might just have been a bad RAM stick? I would guess that if the BIOS recognizes it, then the computer should be able to use it!

It would boot fine... Be recognized and work for anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes... Then the BSOD... It was the RAM.... I never had a problem after removing it.

I'll probably try again after seeing a BIOS upgrade for this very issue.

I don't think Panasonic is still issuing upgrades for the 28, are they? To me it sounds like just that one ram stick has the problem, not necessarily all of them of that particular model. It would be interesting to see if another identical one produces the same results. If you'll share the info on it, I'll be on the lookout for one so that I can try it on mine and see what happens.

Look for the thread on "WOW... New Toughbook Website Found!"... Or something like that. You go there and register and there is where I found it.

This is the memory I bought from Newegg. I just plugged it in and the system recognized it and shows 760 MB of RAM. I ran a few benchmark memory tests to see if it would lockup. No problems yet and I’ve been using this for about a week now.
I hope this helps a few of you out that are considering this upgrade.

It started life as a (CF-28PCJGEPMBKB) then I replaced the mother board with one from a (CF-28STJGZKM) making it a 1000MHz model. BIOS V3.00L11B. This is one of the CF-28’s they where selling on eBay with the internal GPS, 13.1” touch screens and backlit key boards for cheep awhile back. I’ve added a Seagate 100 gig 7200 rpm hard drive and plan to add the Bluetooth and wireless mod as soon as I decide on the best cards.
Thanks for all your help with these mods.
    Jim

The price seems okay. I have seen better and worse.

It may not work with your laptop... Be prepared! Not all 1Ghz models can handle the 512mb stick.

Toughbook. Do you think I would be better off with just putting the 256 in it or do you think it's really worth the hassle for 768? Oh, and before I forget I have to go and see my buddy to pick up those consoles for the cars. He got the ok and took them out but I haven't had the chance to go pick them up yet.

The thing about ordering the RAM is that if it doesn;t work you are going to have a hard time getting a refund. Either that or you'll have to just put it back up for sale. I haven't been able to time the difference between laptops having 512 & 768. There is a BIOS flash for adding 512 to the 1Ghz models... You can go here to see if your model is applicable...

    http://panasonic.ca/english/customercare/sandd/softwarequery.asp

You'll need to register first though I think.

Glad to hear about the laptop mounts. Just let me know what I need to do. If I can get two... Please let me know.

I have version V3.00L12 which according to the website you posted says that it is for supporting onboard 256 and 512 ram as well as intel branding. There is a version V3.00L11A that says it is for supporting 512 expansion memory. My question would be whether or not the version of bios that I have supports the 512 expansion? I would think that it does since it is apparently a newer bios flash but that doesn't always mean anything. Let me know what you think. As for the consoles, I currently have one for you and one for I think it was Modly who also asked for one. If you would like me to I could try to get another one for you. The guys at the dealer are gonna think I'm starting my own police dept. (LOL). Let me know so I can get on top of it fast. Could be like early christmas for you. I bought a set of those kodiak fancy looking docking stations for 1 my truck and another for my car. Do you know if they also require a special power supply? I will have two spare units if anyone is interested. They are the ones with all the buttons on the front. I think I can just use a car adapter with them but am not sure. I think I got a good deal 70.00 for four docking stations. What do you guys think?

I would just spend the extra $19.00 and order from Newegg they have a great return policy and you know you are getting the real deal not fake Chinese memory with a Kingston sticker.
I have BIOS V3.00L11B and the extra 512 MB works for me but your mileage may very.

Hopes this helps and good luck.

Yes... Please put me down for two if you can. I'd like to get a couple of rigs set up.

As far as the memory goes... Go for it. It looks like it will work in yours. Newegg is a good bet but so is ebay if you buy it from the right person.
