    Hi,all.

I have a cf-28S3JGZKM 1000G / 768RAM XP Pro OS that I bought on ebay a while back. The OS had always been buggy with tons of errors and finally came up with a Hal.dll error that gave me the black screen of death. I figured what the heck, might as well wipe it clean and drop a fresh install of XP Pro in it.

Well to make a long story short the couple of XP disks I have are not the right kind for my COA?. I read Microsoft's website and was directed to call Panasonic. They told me since the laptop came with a COA for XP Pro from them (says Panasonic right on the COA sticker) I needed a cf28 XP Pro mk3 disk to use its COA. The kicker is since I am not the original owner, they will not send me a disk. Their license only allows for one disk per laptop as part of the sales package. The guy was nice enough to tell me it would be OK to get a disk else where as I have a legit COA.

I searched the forum and all over online for access to this disk they speak of, no luck. I see lots of you guys have installed larger HD's and am wondering if someone here can hook me up with this mystery disk or maybe explain what kind of XP Pro disk I can use to get my system back up and running with this Panasonic COA.

I am planning on getting larger HD's and doing some other Mods to both of my cf-28's and would like to get this COA thing figured out.

My other one is a 800G / 768RAM w/2000 Pro, and a Panasonic COA. I am not sure what disk that one uses yet as I forgot to ask the guy and will be calling Panasonic tomorrow for that Info. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can't wait to get on the Mod run with you guys with these 2 machines :)

Thanks in advance for reading this and any help.

I personally don't bother with the Panasonic restore discs (Can't find them cheap, so I won't buy them :D )

Try to find just a regular OEM install disc if you can.

I have used Win XP Ver. 2002 with Svc Pack 2 on every CF-28 install I have ever done... And it has always worked. You might have a service pack 1 version of XP... Try to find a newer version and install. It will work!

Thank you for the quick replies! I will ask around and see if anyone I know has an OEM copy. Just a plain jane OEM copy from any system should work ? Or an OEM - VLK kind? I sure hope I can get it back up and running soon.

My HD is the standard 30G. I am thinking I should at least drop one partition in it for the OS and main programs, then put saved files ie Mp3, Avi,Jepg,PDF on the second drive area. Does that sound about right to you guys? I figure a 50 / 50 split. Any thoughts on the best way to set up these laptop HD's?

Thanks again for the quick replies my hopes have been renewed :)

I used a Dell Windows Xp Pro SP2 cd on my machine when I got the 100GB hard drive. Used the coa on the bottom of my cf-28 and worked with no problems.
