I'm stumped. Maybe someone can help.

I bought a logictech mic, so I can skype, but thought I would test
things out first using windows Sound Recorder found in Accessories.

I properties, turned everything up to full, turned on microphone boost,
and still can record anything. The green bar on the Sound Recorder doesn't jump or show any indication that I'm getting anything down, and on playback mode, no sound, and I've used different programs to playback with no success.

I have the sound & record volume maxed, still nothing. (my speakers are working fine otherwise)

    ???

See if your mic is recognized and if it make sure it is selected as the input device.

I had a speaker problem that went on and on. Updated bios, monkeyed with different sound programs and finally ona accident acquired a set of Panasonic restore disks. Did a restore and the speaker worked almost instantly. Something in the restore set must tweak the bios or something as I then dual-booted to Ubuntu and still have sound.
    FWIW.
    Good luck.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with this.
I checked the bios, turned on the mic (duh).

    Is 800MHz, .5G mem., XP-SP3 adequate for web-cam/conferencing?
Anyone with experience? I'm thinking of getting a webcam, since by
camera doesn't support web-cam functionality. But if I don't have enough
horsepower, I might go another route with desk-top hardware.
