Hello all, I've got a cf29 mk 1 and I'd like to use a mouse--you know, the kind with the cord--with it from time to time; do you guys have favorite models? I suppose a wireless mouse is out of the question. Thanks.

I use a 'Trust Compact Wirless Optical Mouse' - model number MI-4930RP

It's a nice neat optical mouse with a two-way scroll wheel and a small USB receiver, no bigger than a typical USB cable plug.

I've used them with both my CF-28 and CF-29, no drivers needed you just plug it in and after a few seconds it works.

The specific feature I really like is that the USB receiver stores in a slot in the underside of the mouse itself, and when it is stored the mouse is hard-switched off so being crammed in a laptop bag with the buttons pressed does not flatten the battery.

[Just had a look at the makers web site, the new version has a receiver hardly bigger than the metal part of the USB plug and an on-off switch on the underside of the mouse. The receiver could be hooked up to an internal USB port in a Toughbook as built-in facility to keep the external port free].

The style I have are still available, I've only just bought an extra one off ebay to use with another machine.

    Robert.

    stewboy,
If you have BlueTooth look at the MoGo mouse. Travels and charges in the PCMCIA slot. If you don't have BT there are tiny BT dongles which have been shown on the forum which fit in the USB socket with the door closed.

    Robert or capt.,

I assume the mark 1 has an internal usb port; I'll check the manual--I'll need to keep the one usb port free for my flash drive.

An INTERNAL USB PORT? No... Can you MAKE an internal USB port? Yes.... The MK1 CF-29 has 1 external USB port too.... Plus whatever you want to do with the PCMCIA ports!

In other words, some internal connectors intended for option add-ons have the USB signals, but you need to make up a short cable to physically connect to a USB device.

If your CF-28 does not have a WWAN radio module, the bay that fits in under the hard drive / battery area is probably the easiest to get to.
(Even if it does have wwan, I don't know if the USB is used, you may still be able to wire to it).
