I took about the lcd bezel for one of my units that has a unresponsive touchscreen. I located the pcb (it's like the only thing in there) but now i just need to know how to test the pcb to see if this is where my problem lies. Anyone know steps i need to take to test out this board? Do I need to have power to it in order to test it? Are there any test points to determine the board is bad and if so where are they? Once again I do like pictures if possibly (I am a visual learner) :) Thanks in advance

Just put suspect board in a known good unit. If the problem moves to the good unit then you have a bad board. If the good unit continues to work then you have a bad panel.

The only way i know to test the board is do what tough-2-go said. Most of the time it is the touch panel that is bad not the board.

I have had 2 cf-29's with a bad touchscreen and never a bad board.

Try to wipe off the board and clean all the connectors then re assemble I had one unit that had a non working touchscreen so i removed the board cleaned it the connectors then the cables that connect to it then reassembled it and the thing just started working.

Luck maybe but you should try it.

    Good luck.

All except for 1. I have a cf-29N mixed into these units. not really sure what it is but it does not have the security torx screws on the battery or the hard drive

Well Rick, so far i've come across 4 bad PCBs on the units that were unresponsive and the rest of the 29s i have just have the crud crammed into the bezel. This is great news to me and for all of you that have been sitting on the edge of your office chair waiting to see what the h3ll is wrong with all the touchscreens I received. Now it's just a matter of seeing if it's cost effective to replace to PCB. Thanks to all of you for your support on the matter.

Rick PM me we now have more 1.3GHz with touchscreens. WOOT!!!!

Wow bad PCB's i have never seen that before. I looked at the PCB prices a while back and they are not that bad but it all depends on how much you are going to sell the units for to see if it cost effective. (if you are even selling them)

yeah i was hoping you were wrong (no offense) because i figured the board is cheaper than the panel.

We do sell alot of these, and if we can get the touchscreens to work they will sell better i'd imagine. Rick took of couple of these units off my hands. He seemed pretty happy. PM me if you want one or know someone who does, they are pretty well priced compared so some of the other insane crap on eBay

No sorry i dont remember off hand it was about 4 months ago. i think they were around $60 but don't quote me on that.

Look up the part number and then use this site:

    https://www.pstc.panasonic.com/Epartr/PartslistChoice.asp?

most of the time heartland is a little cheaper than what those prices say but it will give u a ball park figure then you can call heartland.

I'm not quite familiar with all the names of the components of toughbooks yet. what is the difference between a touch panel pcb and a touch screen pcb. they are listed on that site as 2 different components but i don't know which is which the part numbers are DL3U51266AAA and DL3U41266AAA, at first glance of the part number i thought they were actually the same part listed twice

    Dan,

Call up Kara at Heartland and tell her that you came from this forum and that Rick sent you... She'll ask the parts guys for you to make SURE that you get the correct part!

Also.. You MUST tell her to be sure to water Kirby!
