    hi all
hope somebody can help out on this one.
    i have 2 cf-29,s 1 a mk3 1.4.the other mk4 1.6,other than that both identical.
the mk 3 picks up the wifi signal all over the house very well
however the mk 4 only seems to pick up the signal if its in the same room?
take both upstairs to say bedroom mk3 will recive wifi and show full bars on signal, the mk4 cannot even pick a signal up ?
any ideas, both cf,s are the type that dont have a pull out wireless arial
    thanks
    steven

As no one from the first string has answered you yet, probubly off playing with fireworks, I'll give it a shot, but I'm more of a third string member here.

The pull out antenna isn’t for Wi-Fi, unless hacked or I’m missing something, the Wi-Fi antennas are the black tabs on top of the LCD lid.

I’d suggest, taking a screwdriver and remove these tabs, as they are the covers to the antennas, and make sure they both have antennas, I have a few that didn’t have the antennas.

You may also have a situation where the antenna wires fell off the Wi-Fi card and you just need to re-attach it, or the wire is on the card, but became disconnected from the coupler.

Just pull off the back and take a look. I've never had a bad card, and I've played with a bunch of the 29s.

    Good answer Sam.
The leads are connected (or not) at the antennas, at the keyboard PCB (one or both), at the passthrough PCB (one of them) and at the wireless card.
The keyboard PCB is (good guess) under the KB. The wireless card is on the bottom of the mobo. Be ready to smoosh your thermal pads if any.
And just for grins try it first with no additional ram installed.
Also I have seen them where the two leads on the KB were touching. Didn't seem to matter.

Are you using Windows to manage wireless?

yes Windows to manage wireless,it's just a niggling problem, have 2 29's one will pick a signal up anywhere in the house the other needs to be in same room as the transmitter,is the wireless board under the keyboard then under screw down flap,on the right hand side of keyboard?, was jus a thought to see if 1 of the conections to w/card had come off, would it still work, at reduced range,or if wire off would it not work?, have checked conections at top of screen there seem ok nothing there has come loose,
ps whats the pull out arial for ? and can it be wired up to wireless to give better/further/stronger reception?

Nope, it is for WWAN (cellular). Since they are different frequency ranges, they are not interchangable.
