I have a cf52 (model cf-52CCABVBM) whose power supply just died. I am thinking that this might be the time to order the stuff necessary for a bit of an overhaul and update.

Specifically, I think it may be time to upgrade the hard drive, and I am considering an Intel solid state drive, 160GB, SATA2. I don't know whether the cf 52 is compatible with a SATA2 drive. Any advice?

I am also thinking of ordering Win7 pro while I am at it as I can get the OEM version (I think) if I get it with the ssd. Any known difficulties here? I will download all the latest drivers and update the bios before installation of course.

    Thanks for any advice,

    Best regards,

    Allan Edie

I have two CF-52's MK1 and MK2 .Both are running Intel 320 series SSD's 120GB with W7 + 4GB memory :D . W7 was very easy to install...you should have no problems at all. Mine boots up into W7 in 25-28 seconds. Something I did notice is that the MK1 is much faster than the MK2...not sure why but it is . If you need to know more about SSD's check out the link in my sig. They also have a great "SSD Optimization Guide" that will help you cut 10 seconds off your boot . Oops, one more question,

Toughasnails, are you running the 32 bit or the 64 bit version of windows7? I am leaning toward the 32 bit version for maximum compatibility with older programs and hardware, but I am interested in what you are doing, and what is possible.

    Thanks,

    Allan Edie

I am running 32bit. Not sure where you would get drivers for the 64bit. Toughbooks are very pickie when it comes to drivers. I know for sure my 52 runs very good with Windows 7 ultimate 32bit...no problems at all with any drivers or programs

win7 64bit is running on all my cf-52. I mixed some drivers and applications from the newer Toughbooks to work with the cf-52 ;) .

    Hello again,

I have ordered the 32 bit version - too many older programs and an older printer. I don't really require the extra data handling of the 64 bit OS.

Anyway, Toughasnails, what did you do for drivers? I see that the toughbook website doesn't even list W7 as a compatible OS much less provide specific drivers for it. Did your W7 installation have all necessary drivers included, or did you get them somewhere else?

Thanks very much for your help.

    Best regards,

    Allan Edie

If I am right I used the Vista drivers . W7 did load a lot of them for me and the rest I got on Pannys download page.
