Hi, I hope this subject isn't old hat. I have gotten a good deal on some cf-28's and they came with no hd caddy, big bucks ! so I got a cf card to IDE converter for dual cf cards and used a cf-27 hd cable and put it in the 28's hd bay and it works good except it wont recognize the slave (D drive) Any suggestions ?
    Thank you

I believe the CF-27 /28 / 29 only have a single IDE port with the HDD set as Master and the Optical drive set as Slave.

I know for a fact that a standard optical drive must be modded to slave for it to work, which would not be the case if it was on a seperate IDE controller.

What you could do with all the available space in the machine is have a CF plus IDE converter as the boot drive, then add a USB drive for additional storage. This could either be flash or a 2.5" drive plus a USB converter.

I think there is a USB port on the connector for the RIM or WAN module, or you could possibly fit a USB2 card in the internal PCMCIA slot & hardwire the drive to that to get full drive-speed access to it.

The hard drive IDE and MP IDE are each master on their respective channel. Theoretically you should be able to add a slave drive to either channel but this may not be possible if the BIOS will not recognize the additional slave drive since panasonic didn't intend for you to come along and add a slave drive.

Thanks Guys, your right about the bios not seeing the slave HD and using
the "hidden" PCMCIA port for a hard wired usb drive is a great idea. Well
Gentelmen Thanks again for some great information, I am going to try and find a PCMCIA USB 2.0 card and give it a shot. I'll keep you informed.
