that is what i figured, but I cannot get it to pick up any sound. Like I said sound recorder does not work. I used the sigmatel (I think) application to test the mic and it does not pick up anything. I have it unmuted and volume boost on. any ideas on other ways to test it.

I thought that was the bluetooth antenna -

I don't think the CF-30 has a built-in microphone. There is no reference to a built-in mike in the microphone set-up program; only a test for an external mike...but, I'll leave it to the experts here to confirm this.... ;)

yeah looking at the user manual it does not indicate a mic just that a bluetooth ant. is there, but that lies flat. so in theory there would be room for a mic. as those stand up? otherwise why the little hole?

did you get the not enough memory error? Microsofts website states that it is caused by having over 2gbs of installed memory. no solution is given however. I just want to know if there is a mic. anyone know of an app to test it. I don't want to remove memory just to use sound recorder. I tried my cf-29 and it does not seem to have a mic. either. did they just stop including these?

Which version of windows did u use? Had u tried an compatibility-mode?

U can add an mic to ur cf-29. Read the sticky CF-29 topic.

I don't quite understand how TOO much RAM would cause a piece of hardware to NOT work?? Can someone dumb that one down for me?

AFAIK I thought the business-rugged line was with a built-in mic, but the fully-rugged line did NOT have a built-in mic. I could be wrong, but I thought it had something to do with not being able to seal it properly for Mil specs?

As far as the fully rugged line, they seem to have left it off after the CF-28 everything else seems hit or miss some have it and some don't.

The cf-29 has a provision for internal mic. I used the cf-28 mic when my customer wants to have mic builtin on the unit. It is waterproof. The connector of the mic. is beside the lcd connector on the mbo.

"I don't quite understand how TOO much RAM would cause a piece of hardware to NOT work?? Can someone dumb that one down for me?"

it is not the hardware that does not work. It is windows sound recorder,a small built in program in windows (programs>accessories>entertainment>sound recorder). it can only record 60 seconds of sound not much good for anything nowadays except things like testing line in, mic's, etc. at least that is what I used it for. for some reason it (the program) does not work if more than 2 gb are installed in a system. see microsoft webisite for details. the hardware part, well that is what we are trying to figure out. does the CF-30 line have a built in microphone like the Cf-28's did. seems ohlip is saying they stopped being standard after the CF-28 series. can anyone else coroborate?

Why not just pop off the hinge covers and look? I don't think my CF-30 has a microphone.
