    Hi folks,

I want to share a easy install of a usb Huwei 3g card internal in a CF-29

i recently got a usb 3g stick for free with a dataplan from vodafone.
so i purchased a usb and serial connection card (2e generation) from Vincent (custom-toughbooks, card and flatcable only, no gps) and a antenna pigtail ( http://cgi.benl.ebay.be/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250565722340&ssPageName=STRK:MERFB:IID)
I glued the usb stick (without the plastic) and the pcb from Vincent in the area above the battery and routed the pigtail to the pass trough pcb on the rear.
Works very well, got 30% signal (HSDPA) indoor at 2 km from the antenna.
HSDPA covering is > 80% in Belgium, so i will have a good signal almost everywhere.
Btw, the second generation board from Vincent cut the power at shut down and sleep.
Now i have internal wwan for < 50$

Why not just replace the Novotel minipci-e modem with one that works in europe?

Mine was an old M75 siemens in the wwan sled.
so i needed a new sled (did not supported minipci-e), and that is to expensive.

    you can't get the minipci-e + a new sled for 50$ :D

I don't have it anymore, i put it in a MK3 and sold the machine.
but it was definitively an older model Siemens M75 GPRS modem (i used the EdgeChecknet driver), it worked, but slow :(
The workaround with the usb 3g is very easy and fast. toke 2 days to get the pcb (from Vincent in Norway) and a week to get the pigtail from China
The assembly get a better signal with the antenna than the stick only before.
It is a tight fit above the battery because off the length, it sits all the way in the plastic cover (i took from the MK3)

I got mine from timfatefvn - number 250535372474 I only ordered it a few days ago, but recently hongkong stuff has been taking about 3 weeks to get to me. Which modem did you get? I was very tempted with the one with built in gps :)

    Hi

    Update to my 3g.

I got the cards today. Well they came when I was at work :( and it made finnishing time seem to take a long time.

I have the MC7885 / HS2300 Modem fitted and it works.
Windows XP Pro seen it as HP hs2300, it took a lot of looking for driver that will work and I got :) the HP file name is SP36889 and I am using vofafone mobile connect to control the modem and the switch on the front of the laptop works as well.

If there is anyone in the us that wants my EU730 for free inc shipping as it no good to me. (GONE)
