I have a CF 30 that I use for my work as a reported/editor for an off road magazine, I also use it for navigation in my truck. problem being the local government has tabled legislation restricting lap tops in vehicles. They have however created a loop hole, navigation screens are allowed.
I have an old ToughBook around here somewhere in my shop and I was toying with the idea of using the screen as a remote.
My question first is this possible, and second how would I do this.
Been decades since I last did any significant electronics work, sure wish I had payed more attention in electronics engineering...

Look on eBay for a Panasonic CFVDL01 or 02. They're cheap now and will hook right up and you'll be styling for under a $100 for a Toughbook remote touch screen display.

Ad a GPS to your laptop. Problem solved. It has now become a navigation device. Just don't fudge and make sure the GPS is up and running it's program if the car is in motion.
