I have been looking for awhile for a place to buy Toughbook batteries that are not built with Chinese cells. I have tried a bunch of them from Ontario and it has been truly a hit and miss deal. Plus I waited for over a month for the last one and then got rude service, no answer on emails, so I gave up and started looking again. I found a place in Idaho, out in the sticks, nice people and they have CF-28 & 29 batteries which use Sanyo cells. I ordered today and the three batteries were shipped about two hours later. If you are looking for a battery you might look at this place. I don't know if what will happen but will give an update when I've given them a good test. Also a year warranty and also you don't have to send in an old battery and also they answer the phone and are friendly. I'm hopeful. I told Steve, the boss, that I would let p[eople know on the forum that he had batteries with Sanyo cells so if you talk to them tell them that you heard about them on the forum. This is the first place I have found that uses these cells. Bye for now. Spark

Please let me know what you find... I am sitting on a "dead" battery right now and looking to replace it. There are $66 ones on Ebay but also the $140 Ray-O-Vac ones at BatteriesPlus. Both are listed as 6600mAH.
If it is true that this is 7800mAH, that would be blessing. -
HI: I got my three batteries in two days. Shipped form California and received in California. They are $120. I did the Battery Refresh and then started it up and was on my Phone AS Modem for over three hours till it went dead. So far so good. Compared to Heartland at $356.00 shipped, it is a deal. They say that the Panasonic battery is good for four hours, but I don't know if that is at idle or working. A third the price at 25% less time is OK with me. I think the numbers work out. I don't know how long the Panasonic is warrantied for. At least so far. I'm going to torment this battery and see what happens. Also real nice people to deal with. So far I'm tickled. There is a year warranty and I have high confidence. Also they say it will operate at 80% of its original output for a year. Not too bad. Spark

Hey..hey! pappy! welcome back. Where have you been, man! Hows your world out there?
teo -
Well, I placed an order to them over the weekend in hopes of a good report.
My CF-29 will hold a charge on its own for about 40min, then, its dead.
I get to reinstall WinXP Pro (sp3) here this evening as I have a new hard drive that just arrived.
Hopefully, I get the battery here this week. -
I've been doing a little consulting work in exotic locales. -
Hey Pappy!
Welcome back!

My new battery just gave me 3 hrs and 20 minutes. This was the second charge I have given it. I had five Google browsers going, four other windows open, phone as modem surfing, no power saving anything, and the screen turned to bright. My friend is using his 29 on and off all day and into the night before he puts it on the charger. I have another 28 battery out there but nothing yet on it. So far these look. I have had them from Battery Refill or Battery Rebuild, whatever they call themselves, that I have had to send right back to them. Red light straight out of the bag. Good eh?? Plus you get nice rude service and no communication while your waiting the month+ to hear from them. I couldn't believe this. And here is a new update on the battery I ordered from them. When it was ready they sent me a PayPal bill which I was supposed to guess was from them. Well I'm not using PP eight now so called them and told them to put it on my credit card like they were supposed to do in the first place. The guy on the other end rudely told me that they didn't take credit cards. Why would it say on their website that my credit card would not be charged until the battery was shipped? HELLO. They said I could send them a check if I wanted the battery. That's when I really started to look for another supplier, I've been using BatRefil for several years. I found Battery Universe and some real nice people on the other end. I ordered three batteries. About a week later I get a notice that my card has been charged from BatRefil. I called, no answer, so I sent them an email Next I heard was that the battery had been shipped and that they were very sorry for any inconvenience that they have caused me and I could send the battery back. I'm going to keep the battery and test it against the others because it would probably get lost on the way back or something. Poor service, poor communication, rude behavior and a bit of cheating as far as I'm concerned means that I won't buy another battery from them. Sorry for banging on but this company has caused me grief and maybe I can save you from some of the crap I went through. Spark

I just got my new 7.8AH battery from BU (from the link up in the OP) and it appears brand new in every way.
I am using it right now straight from the packaging.
I will calibrate it once a week while I "break it in" and see how it goes.
My existing 7.65AH unit has "freshened" nicely and holds a solid 3 hours for "normal" use. I don't have any power savings besides going into sleep mode at 30min.
To have a pair of batteries that both hold 3+ hours of charge and alternate between them should keep things going for a few more years.
And when on travel, 2 battery packs are better than one.
Now, if I could just find a reasonably priced media bay battery, I could enjoy that ever elusive 8hr run time I have been searching for after my Dell C610 bit the dust. (that had a pair of 4800mAH batteries in it that would go for hours and hours before getting the warning light to come on)
I'll keep everyone posted as to how this goes. I figure after a month, being 4 calibrations, I should have it all sorted out. -
Quick update:
New battery took nearly 10 hours to calibrate. Started off at 70% charge, so, it had to get to 100% before it could start the discharge. (figure an hour or two to get to 100% and then 6-7 hours to discharge???)
Anyhow, been on it now for over an hour doing email and web browsing while watching TV and the battery meter only has me down to 82%.
Good stuff!!! -
