i have a CF-19 that has an intel core DUO u2400 @ 10.6Ghz and 1.5GB of ram, not sure what speed.

I have a gopro HD hero camera and ive downloaded a video from it but it seems to play the first image then freeze on that while the sounds carries on. sometimes it will skip to the next current image while the sound carries on as normal.

i tried playing it through the latest update of VLC and also in windows media player.

currently using windows 7 ultimate but this will soon be windows 7 professional as this copy has turned out to be dodgy.

do you think the trouble is that the computer isnt up to scratch to play it? i tried 720p HD and that was the same trouble. It plays fine through the TV directly off the camera.

Try to install newer codec pack.
    codecguide.com for example

out of interest, do codec work on a generic basis, so any media program can use them, or are they specific to a program? becuase ive had to download codec many times for windows media player but VLC has always worked outright whatever it was being asked to play.

(must use the s more often)

that codec pack didnt work. but i transfered the file to the computer to play it which worked fine. but playing off the card doesnt. that codec pack also came up as a malware threat. but at least my original problem is solved lol

VLC uses it's own built in codecs. Windows Media Player and other DirectShow based players use system wide codecs.
Some other media players like MPC-HC can use system wide codecs but also have their own built in codecs which take priority unless disabled.
