was told that the gps unit from a cf-18 would work in a cf-19 but there would need to be some modding done. anyone have the info on this procedure and pics detailing the mod? thanks!

I think that this has been discussed before, fairly recently... I don't think they swap over... The pinouts are different.

majette..Its worth to try. Here is detail diagram that may guide you for an interface cable and I have a feeling that the original cable ribbon on oem gps of cf-18 will work. Its like a reverse in numbering(based on diagram) but I am not sure of other line or you can mod your own but I want you to make sure that the diagram must be implemented. Eleminate the line which is not needed for safety reason. I don't have on hand an oem gps of cf-18 or cf-29. Cf-29 and Cf-18 uses the same gps module for your infromation. Remember that Tx must be connected to Rx and Rx pin to Tx

thanks for the info. are you saying that i would have to modify the cf-18 cable as follows:

    2 to 11
    3 to 10
    4 to 9
    6 to 6 and 12
    9 to 4 and 5

which wire is not needed that you say has to be eliminated?

Okay... You are correct... But Teo's shot shows an "either - or" Not a "both".... Hookup the following...

    CF-18 then CF-19
    2 11
    3 10
    4 9
    6 6 OR 12 (NOT both!)
    9 4 OR 5 (NOT both!)

That should work. I haven't checked the drawings against the actual pinouts but Teo is usually spot on. I think Teo is showing you both so you know during the modification that you have a choice if it makes things easier of one over the other. You can ground as many times as you like... But I think he means that you shouldn't hook up the 5V line twice into the one line. That is playing with fire... err... possible smoke anyway....

As I mentioned... a direct transfer isn't possible but you can mod anything you want. I would think it would be easier though to mod in an aftermarket setup like the EM408 (Or similar) and an active patch antenna. You could sell the stock setup for $200 easy and buy the aftermarket for under $100 and have a much better system.

Just a thought... Hope this helps...

Ok! This would be like this in actual connection from cf-18 oem gps module to cf-19 pin out. As I mentioned on my first post, TX must be connected to Rxpin and Rx to Tx pin.

    2---11
    3---9
    4---10
    6---6 or both 6 & 12
    9---4 or both 4 & 5

    got it?
