i tried every option i had last night for a GPS to function on my CF-29. It looks like i will be going the USB/Bluetooth route for now.
1. World Navigator CF GPS receiver
2. Global Sat CompactFlash Gps receiver
3. Microsoft USB Gps that came with street and trips
4. I.trek M7 Bluetooth and USB gps
The compact Flash cards worked with the pmcia adapter but they looked like they would be a little to easy to break off. The Microsoft GPS reciver worked ok but it was limited to being connected with a USB cable and it glows a weird purpleish blue color. The itrek M7 is running off usb for now but i am waiting on a USB bluetooth adapter to come in this week to make it wireless. I think it will work pretty well and i picked up 12 Sattelites sitting in my living room under a metal roof in under 2 minutes. Im still not sur eif im sticking with the cf-29 or not so i dont want to spend the money on the internal gps kit. I still think the CF-18 and CF-19 will be better suited for my needs.

Hey Vinnie! Welcome to the forum. I am currently using a BU-353-W model USB GPS receiver from usglobalsat.com along with MS Streets & Trips 2009 on my CF-18 with outstandingly accurate performance. The CF-18 is compact enough for the front seat of my vehicle & the USB receiver can be used in another tablet pc if needed (unlike the internal unit). I can appreciate the convenience of an internal gps, but for the money, my usb receiver really delivers. I hope this has helped in your decision making.

that looks like a good GPS but it doesnt have blutooth capabilities. since one of the places i will be draggign my tough book is on my boat i would like to be able to seal the usb port doors completely. the M7 is bluetooth and usb it just isnt waterproof. But i guess thats what zip Loc bags are for.
Do you know if the screws in the toughbook are stainless?
I have a cf-18 with internal GPS unfortunaltely its dead. I guess it would make a good donor computer since it is in excellent condition on the outside. -
I am new to having a Toughbook but we have them at work and I love them and now I finally have one of my own! I work as an EMT and we have them in the ambulances. I am looking to add an external GPS to my CF-29P and would like to know if anyone has used the Delorme Earthmate LT-40 external GPS? I am looking at getting that for my CF-29P. We have the Delorme Earthmate PN-40 Handheld GPS for Geocaching and we love it. Also, I got this Toughbook to run the Delorme Topographical software for Geocaching. We are going on two road trips this fall and would like to have a good GPS to get us where we need to go. The first trip will be from Phoenix, Az to Pueblo, Co Labor Day Weekend and the second one from Phoenix, Az to Dubuque, Ia in October. Thank you and I look forward to any replies and advice on external GPS's.

I got one from office depot on sale have used it on one trip and it worked well. Am still new to the navigating the software part, it does speak out directions(as it should) and isn't idiot proof(don't ask me how I know). you can probably get them off ebay a good bit cheaper than the 65.00 plus tax I paid. have seen the for 40-35 range on ebay latest model. still have lot more to learn from it and picks up sats fast. hope this helps......Driller

i received my blue tooth adapter today. I went with the IOGear Blue tooth 2.1 Micro Adapter. It uses the Widcomm stack. i havent played with it too much so i dont know what all the options were but i did get it to connect to my i.trek M7 and pull up my location on google earth. It fits in my 1 and only USB port very well and i can close the rubber door with no problems. I also received a response from Semsons about a water proof blue tooth gps module. Ther reccomended the Gosget SB-369 Bluetooth GPS Receiver or i can purchase a $20 otter case for my current bluetooth from them.

Is that a better gps than the Delorme LT-40?
I have a CF-29PTQLZBM and I am not sure if that will work or not.
Thank you for your time. Have a great and safe rest of the week!
Sincerely,

thanks topcop, there prices were a little high but we buy equipment from them at work and they are usually pretty good about suggesting stuff. My only problem with it is i don't think it has a usb, it looks like its a seperate charger.

EMTSnow,
I wouldn't say its better i just prefer the option of a wireless connection I also wont have a usb cable hanging out of my laptop all the time so i can keep my usb port cover on. If your already using Delorme for navigation it might make thing easier to use there hardware but they are both compatible with your laptop.
