Hey guys, just signed up, have been reading and search but couldnt find the exact answer.

I have a CF-28 that had the rubberized keyboard on it and just got sick of typing on it. I bought it used and the owner gave me the regular keyboard, so I decided to switch them. I did however manage to break one side of that clip.

But I can get it to hold good enough that the key board works, but only have the keys. Does this have anything to do with the ribbon not being held in place good enough? At one point I had the other keys working but now they dont again. Just not sure where to go from here.

    Thanks!

Yes, generally, this means your ribbon is not properly seated

This is exactly what happened when i broke the little connector on the board for the keyboard ribbon. I could never get it to seat right in there anymore afterward. It always had this exact problem. That 28 became a parts unit....

    Streetriders... Welcome to the forum!

Yes.. Breaking that little brown latch can cause major issues with your keyboard... BUT... If it is only broken a little on one or both sides you still may be able to jury rig it to work. It was a very poor design that they eventualy scrapped. The latch forces the ribbon cable up and into the connector. You may still be able to force the ribbon cable up to do the job though. I've used a small wooden toothpick before... But each case is different. Whatever you do be CAREFUL! If you break the top part of the connector off with the brass connections you are SOL and will need a whole new motherboard!

This forum is a wealth of info as you will soon find out... Plus there are a bunch of smart, dedicated people who are willing to jump in to help you out.
