As Shawn said, the hours are listed on the main screen of the BIOS. If the unit has 20K+, change the thermal pad(s). That will add years of life to the unit, as well as cutting down on potential problems.

Sadlmkr here....let's air this out. :D
To get 33,000 hours on a CF-30...especially one that looks good....it has to sit on a desk somewhere. It was turned on and somebody forgot to turn it off. The hardest thing I have been told is the ON/OFF cycles.
    1. Look at the bottom. (This can be a FAKE if new plastic overlays have been added although it is hard to transfer the original COA,bar code and serial #)
    2. Look at the dock connector. Hard to fake. Does the wear match the scratches on the overlays?
    3. Here is my secret....pick the unit up by the hinge side and shake it.....If the handle falls open be cautious. Or not. My friend these are Toughbooks. We are paying something like <10% of retail. ALL parts are interchangeable between a particular Mark and often between all Marks in a series.

If you are wary and want to know PM me at TBT or here with the ad number. We will not lead you astray.

    Jeff...just sold a pristine +33K unit...with no worries... :D

My highest is a CF-29mk5 with 13,000 hours on it,paid $28 for it,slapped a HD in and the touchscreen even worked. I have a friend with a bunch of 52's up to 20,000 hours.

How about screen brightness? Wouldn't that be affected by hours run?

    Theoretically, yes it would.

    However...

The machine might have spent its life - or a least a good portion of it - docked at some telco's supervisor's desk.

It might have had the LCD replaced as well.

Would I be leery of buying a ToughBook which shows 30K hours from an unknown source unless it were an absolute steal? Yes.

Would I have a problem picking one up from the folks that frequent this section of NBR? No.

    My $0.02 only...

    Happy shopping.

I agree, if you buy from one of the forum members you will not be buying junk. But ebay you really have to look at what kind of seller you are dealing with. A good seller will be up front with you and post lots of pictures so you know what you are getting. If it's to cheap then there must be a reason why. I have noticed that there has been a few CF-30C that the screens seams dim and priced at around $200.00 . They will cost you double in the end....no deal there.

I agree, I make my living on ebay and have a short list of people I trust to buy from. Ask questions, look at feedback and get pictures. Read the description carefully looking for loopholes.

The guys here are straight up. :D

Going to revive this, sold some Toughbook to the local Ford dealer. He is running a CF-19mk1 with over 44,000 hours on it.

Also a CF-18mk5 doing the same.......holy buckets! And they run good, the 18 is just about done because it needs an ac port, battery and USB port. But it still runs. :D
